WASHINGTON - Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld is in Iraq, a Pentagon spokesman said Saturday.
"He's there to express his appreciation to the troops and to thank both the troops and their families for the sacrifices they are making," said Air Force Lt. Col. Todd Vician, a Defense Department spokesman.
Rumsfeld's trip follows an emotional farewell Friday at the Pentagon, where the defense secretary defended his record on Iraq and Afghanistan.
I just heard about this on Fox...
I am SO glad Rummy went...I am sure there will be a lot of troops who will be sad to see him go...
Prayers for Rummy..
Godspeed, Secretary Rumsfeld. Enjoy yourself.
Rumsfeld was Bush's best cabinet appointement. Too bad he threw him to the Dem/MSM wolves. I lost a lot of respect for Bush in the way it was handled and why it was done.
I loved everything about Donald Rumsfeld; he'll be sorely missed.
Secretary Rumsfeld is a great American.
We owe him thanks for visiting the troops and for his many years of service to our country.
I don't think Bush "threw him to the wolves". The Dems hate Rummy even more than they hate Bush, and they were determined to make him impotent and make his life miserable. I don't think there was a choice.
The fault is with the American electorate. This was an obvious outcome of a Dem win in Nov.
Yep, too bad Rumsfeld and Bolton lost the election......oh, wait, they weren't running for anything........but why did..............oh, never mind.
One hellava guy, and how we could use more..
FoxNews said Sean Hannity is with him.
I was coming here to see if anyone else heard that..I wanted to make sure I wasn't hearing things..
FINALLY, Sean can put his body where his mouth has been...I think anyone that pontificates about the war...should go over there.
Way to go Sean...
"The fault is with the American electorate. This was an obvious outcome of a Dem win in Nov."
Exactly!
He said Friday that the worst day of his nearly six years as secretary of defense occurred when he learned of the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse. It was a bad day for us all. It was a day when the left got the upper hand in the debate in the media.
A week before the election, Bush said Rumsfeld was going to stay. How were the Dems going to make him "impotent." I would leave up to Rumsfeld to decide if he wanted to be "miserable."

Obvious to whom? Is Cheney next? Bush is the President. Rumsfeld was confirmed. The only way he can be removed is if the President fires him or Rumsfeld resigns.
I will miss Rummy...he and General Myers as a team were awesome in my eyes.
I agree. It looks like we are getting a step back with the Gates guy. Why can't President Bush get it? He hasn't lost support because he hasn't been diplomatic enough he has lost support because he hasn't been strong enough and conducted the war strongly enough. He needed to replace Rumsfeld with someone of the caliber of retired General Tommy Franks (http://www.tommyfranks.com/Index.shtml) not some intelligence wonk from DC. I do not understand the motivations of President Bush any longer. It doesn't make sense from a political or situational point of view. This is the President's last term, he has nothing to lose from behaving like he has nothing to lose. I just pray for a straight talking leader to take the stage who isn't afraid of media or standing up for America.
