Iraqis Allege Civilians Killed in Raids
AP via ABC News ^ | Dec 8, 2006 | KIM GAMEL

The U.S. military said 20 insurgents, including two women, were killed in a raid and subsequent airstrike Friday on a predominantly Sunni village northwest of Baghdad, but local officials alleged the dead were civilians including eight children.

In southern Iraq, British and Danish forces hunted rogue Shiite militiamen blamed for recent attacks, conducting a pre-dawn raid that was described by coalition officials as the largest offensive in the area since the war began.

Lengthy article. After I read about the child:

An Associated Press photo showed an Iraqi man in blue garb holding up the dusty head of a boy of about 10, identified by villagers as killed in the attack. The boy lay on a floral print quilt, and his right hand poked out from under a piece of fabric, his fingers curled.

I knew they wouldn't be so descriptive of a child killed by a suicide bomber and, surprisingly, in the same article Gamel mentions a suicide bomber injuring, granted not killing, several children:

"A suicide car bomber hit an Iraqi army checkpoint, killing three people and wounding 15, including five children, in Tal Afar. "

That's it. No evocative description of the children here.

If we are going to "win" in iraq, this is part of the price for that.

We can either wring our hands or we can win, we cannot win if both of our hands are being wrung.

There is a second front to this war that we are not addressing, that is the PR War. We have failed miserably on that front. And yes I blame most of it on the MSM, but there must be a way around them.

Since the excremists do not belong to the uniformed formations, the notion of "iraqi civilian" is meaningless, unless as "someone not in the official Iraqi army".

Unfortunately, I think we tried to fight on that front and got beaten badly. I remember the DoD Office of Strategic Influence was called "the Lie Factory" by MSM and the coverage was so universally negative that it had to be shut down.

The terrs are civilians, they live among civilians, operate among civilians, launch their attacks from among civilians, and mostly kill civilians.

To imagine you are going to fight them without killing civilians is a fantasy. But since they mostly attack civilians anyway, to imagine that not fighting them would spare civilian lives is also a fantasy.

War is tragic. Get on with it.

Perhaps we can appeal to their honor and patriotism?

What was that? Neither one you say? Nevermind.

Do you mean to say that killing children is part of the price of winning the war or that having AP accuse us of killing children is the price of winning the war? I'm still waiting to find the hundreds of people who were killed in Jenin three years ago.

I mean what I typed.

this idea that somehow we can fight the "perfect war" that involves no civilian casualties is just not possible. And to wring hands Tsk Tsk everytime a civilian dies, and to then pullback from trying to win is less than humane.

If brutality is required then use it, but use it massively, not selectively, because selectively means that the war will only drag out, with even more civilian casualties.

There is a way around them. What we need is a President who can call press conferences and with his wit, charm, intellect and eloquence get his message accross to the American people that we need to take the war to the islamofacits, while at the same time revealing just how treacherous and devious the media are by shattering their loaded questions with witty replies brimming with truth, reality and unassailable facts. Unfortunately, what we have is the most illiterate, inarticulate, innefective, bumbling public speaker to ever sit in the Oval Office. Bush couldn't sell a pu pu platter to a starving Chinaman.

Most likely they killed the child themselves, then screamed murder. The Middle East is full of such intrigue, madness, and deceit.

You've got my vote for Secretary of Defense. The way we're going about dealing with islamofacists it will take us an eternity to defeat them. When I think of how much money, resources and blood we've spent on the killing of only several thousand "terrorists" it boils my blood. After what they did on 9/11 there should be a couple hundred thousand of them sent to meet their virgins.

With this present, limited warfare mentality we're employing, America will go bankrupt before any real gains are made. As I see it, islam is weakening us economically and politically by dragging this war out, and they do it primarily through clobbering us in the public relations war. This is the absolute worst possible time to have an inarticulate, incompetent public speaker serving as President. America is totally lacking in leadership, in the White House and the Senate.

The sole difference between a "civilian" and a "militant" there is that a "civilian" is someone whose AK has been hidden before the photographers arrive.

Of all those in the running in 2008 the only one I can see fitting that bill is Rudy.......Go Rudy

We need to kill another million civilians. This will stop the insurgents from hiding within the population. I'd get rid of the Sunni Triangle. It would be called the Triangle (no living Sunni's in the area) after 24 X 7 boming.
