Future Chelsea Clinton In-Law in Jail

Rumors have been heating up that former first daughter Chelsea Clinton and her boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky are heading for the altar. If true, the father of the groom would likely be conspicuous by his absence – he’s behind bars.

Ed Mezvinsky, a former Iowa Congressman, was sentenced in January 2003 to nearly seven years in jail after pleading guilty to 31 fraud-related counts.

After leaving Congress, Mezvinsky, now 65, moved to the Philadelphia suburbs with his wife Marjorie, a former TV reporter who won a seat in Congress herself.

The Mezvinskys were friends of Bill and Hillary Clinton and were frequent guests at White House state dinners, ABC news reports.

Prosecutors said Mezvinsky, an international business deals broker, used his Clinton connections to convince people to hand over more than $10 million. Among his investors were friends, clients and even his mother-in-law.

At the same time, Mezvinsky himself was victimized by several Nigerian e-mail scams that cost him more than $3 million.

Federal prosecutor Bob Zauzmer told ABC’s "20/20” that Mezvinsky became the victim of "just about every different kind of Africa-based scam we’ve ever seen.

"He was always looking for the home run. He was always trying to find the business deal that would make him as wealthy as all the people in his social circle.”

The only thing about this article that interested me was the omission of the word Democrat in describing Ed Mezvinsky.

What is missing is that his wife was a one term Dem congresswoman from Montgomery county PA

My gut feeling is Chelsea will get married about the time of the election, and the media will swoon over it. The wedding dress, etc - and people will vote Hillary because they just think it's so nice her daughter is getting married.

Hey, they used their cat and their dog as a prop, why not their daughter?

She was the last Congrescritter to vote on a highly controversial tax increase, and voted FOR, breaking the tie.

Yeah, I remember right after she voted B-1 Bob Dornan and the other more vocal back benchers were yelling "Bye Bye, Margie!" from across the chamber. They were right.

Correct! Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky, then often known as "the 3M Lady" because of her name, had been elected in 1992 as a Democrat in a (then) very Republican 'Main Line' district Philadelphia that hadn't elected a Dem in decades.

She campaigned and won election by assuring the voters in her district that she would reflect their fiscally conservative principles, but, once in office, immediately broke her promise in the most spectacular way possible: she cast the deciding vote in favor of the huge Clinton tax increase of 1993, breaking a tie. You can read more about it here:

Why is it that only the liberals fall for these Nigerian scams?

Reagan psychologist 'lost up to $3m in internet scam'

Louis Gottschalk, a prominent American psychologist and neuroscientist who earned world renown after studying the mental degeneration of the former president Ronald Reagan, has lost millions of dollars to a Nigerian internet scam, according to court papers filed in California by his son.

Dr Gottschalk was first hooked by the fraud more than 10 years ago, the suit said, and even travelled to Nigeria and Amsterdam for meetings with the shadowy figures involved, including one called "The General". Over a 10-year period, it alleged, he may have given away as much as $3m (about pounds 1.7m).

"While it seems unlikely, even ludicrous, that a highly educated doctor like him would fall prey to such an obvious con, that is exactly what happened," a lawyer for the son wrote in court papers. Guy Gottschalk is asking the court to remove his father as the administrator of the family's $8m estate.

The scams, named 419s after the Nigerian statute that outlaws fraud, are familiar to most internet users. Usually they begin with an e-mail sent to millions of would-be victims from Nigeria, pleading for help in getting huge fortunes out of the country and in to a foreign bank account. The recipients are offered a slice of the cash if they help, but first they must wire money to cover alleged fees. They never see the money again.

But one of the Bush girls got her purse stolen, and that's a big story! Meanwhile, the criminal conspiracy that is the RAT party gets little or no mention.
