Yes, it happened in 1627, at least the best known incident, wich happened in the Vestmann Islands (and along the east coast). We didn´t have any defences to speak of, although after this a small force was established in the Vestmann Island, but it gradually disapeared.
We were able to buy back some of the people that were sold as slaves in Algeria (wich was then under Ottoman control I beliewe). Including the wife of one of our main poets and priests, who got to know her when he was made responsible for ensuring that her christianity was unspoiled, by reeducatng her and other of the former captives in their proper christianity.
After this, the Althing made laws, that were official laws of the country, although propably trumped by the constitution stating against murder, until in 1995 when we hosted the International Championship in Handball due to turkish demands. The law stated that all Turkish found in Iceland where "Réttdræpir", that is everyone could kill them without punishment.
