Like his unsupported assertion that the US cannot win in Iraq, Baker also asserts - in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary - that Iran and Syria share America's "interest in avoiding chaos in Iraq."
I don't think that's all tha far off -- the US hasn't really got an interest in stability in Iraq, and should A) partition the country into Kurdish and Arab states (and leave it up to the Arabs to decide whether to further divide that Arab state into two states by Moslem type), and B) level Syria and Lebanon, leaving the Saudis to worry about the Shiite-heads in Iran. That would strengthen Israel (our only ally there) and weaken the Iranian dictatorship / mullahcracy (the pretense of Islamic rule may be about to change as the phony Islamofascists emerge victorious over the real ones), undercut the likelihood that Egypt will abrogate its treaty with Israel, further diplomatically isolate Turkey (which would then have to build ties either with Iran or the Arab states of Iraq), and perhaps most importantly, free up the US armed forces to rub out further "insurgencies" around the world. The infection would be quarantined, and the Moslems could get back to what they do best -- oppressing themselves and each other. Then we can just sell ammo to all combatants as we and Israel watch the carnage.
