Alot of reasons not to believe it. Among them, they did not count the anchor babies that ARE qualified to receive services and are sucking them up, and they did not count the cost of educating the illegal children and the anchor babies.
They always leave out lots of costs to get the figure they want.
The very artfully crafted and misleading headline refers specifically to "state" revenues vs. costs (illegals are a $420 million benefit). The article also says illegels are a billion dollar net cost to local governments in Texas. So based on the content of the article, the headline should read "Illegals Cost Texans $500 million Per Year".
Then the article says "that cities and school districts suffer as well" without estimating costs and which means the overall net affect of illegals is even lover. Illegals cost Harris County (Houston) almost $20M on police alone. That never made it into other figures.
Obviously the gross state product would increase with more people. Any extra person with a job increases GSP. But how does it affect the GSP/per person though?
The article spins the negativity of the report , by presenting it as a balance instead of a negative. Imagine at raise time you get a $10,000 raise, but you lose your $8000/year car allowance, your contribution towards the Medical and dental plans goes up $5000/yr, and they are moving offices further away from your home, which will cost you an extra $1000/yr in gas. Would anyone look at that like it was a "give and take"? Or would any sane person think they are getting the shaft?
Ain't that the truth?
