Dixie Chicks lead Grammy nods

The Dixie Chicks may have been "Not Ready to Make Nice," but the Recording Academy was nice to the country-pop trio, giving them nominations in the top three categories for the 49th annual Grammy Awards.

The Chicks were nominated for album of the year for their CD "Taking the Long Way," as well as record of the year and song of the year (a songwriter's award) for their single "Not Ready to Make Nice."

The group suffered a boycott from some country music radio stations in the aftermath of lead singer Natalie Maines' 2003 comments about President George W. Bush. The new album is more rock-oriented and was mostly ignored by country outlets. However, it did receive a Grammy nomination for best country album.

Not surprising. As long as George W. Bush is President, the Dixie Chunks will be thrown at us whether we like it or not. Never mind they've thrown away a huge career in country music by coming out and badmouthing our President. Oh well...they'll have a great career appearing in small Greenwich Village art bars and on Austin City Limits.

Rubin, who produced both the Dixie Chicks and Red Hot Chili Peppers albums, said he viewed the country trio's nominations as a validation of their creative integrity.

"They've told the truth. They didn't 'showbiz' their way out of it," he told Reuters, referring to the album's tone.

That quote cracked me up...yawn.

What's a "Grammy?" Some kind of health food?

Let 'em continue to tour in Europe. It's the perfect place for them.

As for the Grammy Award people, it's only too obvious why they have done this. To nominate the ditzes for top country album is kind of ridiculous since the ditzes are no longer popular with country listeners and aren't played much on country radio. Clearly it's an in-your-face slap at all the people who have rejected them in favor of Bush who, lol, apparently isn't well thought of by the Grammy crowd.

Remember, these are the same people who gave Jethro Tull an award for Best Heavy Metal several years ago.

Exactly. A dude playing a flute beat out Metallica in the newly formed metal category. How lame was that?

Awarding Jethro Tull Best Heavy Metal over Metallica is exhibit A of just what kind of joke the Grammy's are. Exhibit B is the time they gave Best New Artist to Milli Vanilli.

Giving the Dixie Chicks a Nomination for a Grammy is a bit like giving the Nobel Peace prize to Yassar Arafat and Jimmah Carter..

It only cheapens the prize it doesnt enrich the winner.

Well isn't that nice. pigface and company will get the hollyweird nod while their hometeam the CMA told them NOT to show up at the real Country Music Awards... that they would be tarred and feathered. Kid Rock told them one of his biotches would tear 'em a new one if they were to show!

There are real Patriots in American Entertainment... but not many in tinsel town.

I understand the country music awards had more viewers than the Grammies last time around. Check country music out if you are nauseated by the moronic state of pop/rock today.

The Grammys need to let country take care of it's own.
