Look at Columbus. He didn't know where he was going, when he got there he didn't know where he was, and when he returned he didn't know where he had been. (And he did it all on a woman's money.)
But it turned out pretty well, didn't it!
These scientists are coming up with some good stuff. Cut them some slack.
Once again, they use the language of metaphysical certainty while using the tools of rough guessing. I really don't mind that they flail like this, but wouldn't it be nice if they'd admit they're sailing without a map, not knowing what the hell they're doing, that any idiot who can tie his own shoes could do almost as well.
That's all I want.
As usual, excellent post. I'm wondering if the 'apiring' of this particle with Higgs Boson will occur at higher energies. Perhaps we could ask that gorgeous Lady Physicist with the recent pop-physics book?
