Reagan made one big mistake. Amnesty. Nobody is without fault.
But it's been a long day and I don't feel like arguing right now.

Can you even describe "The Deficit"?
I can, and I know it isn't what most people think.
Your post smacks of being Anti-Reagan in its tone.
If you can't see that Reagan was one of our greatest presidents, I think you are in the wrong place.

A dead Reagan would certainly still have my vote against a still brain dead Mondale

If you can't see that Reagan was one of our greatest presidents, I think you are in the wrong place.I think Reagan was the greatest president of the 20th century and one of our greatest presidents ever.
Reagan, however, also:
1) Allowed Congress to spend like drunken sailors.
2) Granted blanket amnesty to three million illegal immigrants
3) Turned timid (actually, turned tail) when confronted by islamic fascists.
Yet Reagan is a hero here, while it seems most Freepers think Bush 43 is a bum.
Something is really wrong with this picture.

Also, he told me that he learned that they don't count the absentee ballots unless an election is close. Don't know how true this is. Probably true. Every state does it slightly differently. Ours counts the absentee ballots that can be processed automatically (optical readers), but isn't very diligent about counting the ones that need hand processing unless the vote is close. It's expensive to process those, and if it won't make a difference, there's no reason to bother.

Quick! Send in the lawyers! I demand a recount!!! :^D

Walter Mondale. That loser's performance was even worse than his former boss, Jimmy "Landslide" Carter.

People in general weren't aware of the true greatness of President Reagan during his tenure. Some were, but the media pretty much behaved just about the same way toward him as they have been doing to President Bush during his term in office - undercutting him, ridiculing him constantly, trying to destroy him. Frankly, the talking heads and the DU types constantly ridiculed Reagan for being old, for allegedly going to sleep in Cabinet meetings. All the while Reagan just smiled indulgently, said "there they go again", did his thing half asleep and one hand tied behind his back so much better than Bubba Clinton and came out on top of the Presidential greatness heap in the end. I think he would like President Bush and admire him; glad he didn't have to know a whole lot about Clinton for very long; so depressing.

Yes, my hometown in the news again!! For yet another thing we shouldn't be proud of!! And even on a family road. Woohoo!!
I know, I know, I should probably be ashamed but Gastonny pride is sort of weird. We tend to be more proud of things we shouldn't be and not as for things we should be. It's when the redneck comes out in us ;)

Stupid question; wouldn't such a box contain ballots for ALL races? Much more relevant than the Reagan thing, is it possible that some local races may have been affected by the absence of these ballots?

LG, I was thinking about the races myself. According to the article the closest race was 1,400 votes. IIRC, that was the year of Helms/Hunt but it wasn't close. We didn't have much intrigue back in the 80s there. Pretty much you knew who was going to win months before the election.

This whole absentee business is such that I'd like to see a federal law that says you spend 10 years in prison if you or country-appointed member refuses to count a single absentee vote.
