We didn't need experts to tell us we won the Gulf War, World Wars I and II, the Civil War, the Mexican War and the Revolutionary War: The enemy either surrendered or sued for peace on terms favorable to the U.S.

In Iraq we could tell we were winning if the security situation was so good U.S. combat troops could be withdrawn. Is there any sign of that in your opinion? If U.S. troops remain in combat another four, 10 or 400,000 years, is it likely victory can be won?

Again, we've imposed something called the Iraqi Government of National Unity on Mesopotamia. In fact, there is no Ireaqi nation state, and after four years there is no government and no unity. There is a democratic, indepdent Kurdistan, a Shiite south, and the Sunni triangle. The only people who want an Iraqi state are oiur Baathist enemies.

I just can't be as pessimistic as you, no matter how hard I try if I tried.
