FR came into being under the shadow of the Clinton presidency. Conservatives needed a place to go, and FR filled the niche. When you have a common opponent to rally against, everyone feels more comfortable debating strategy amongst ourselves. It's harder to be open when our guy is in power, and there's dissention in the ranks over how he's doing. FR, being the free site that it is, has been rife with trolls and infiltrators, and that makes people even more suspicious of non-party line viewpoints.
But, hope of a sort is on the horizon. President Clinton brought us here, and President Clinton will bring us back together. (Think about that one for a sec) In the meantime, keep your asbestos underwear handy.
