Bush Says Victory in Iraq is Important
(Excerpt) Read more at foxnews.com ...
I'll believe it when I see it. Up to now, it's all talk and no action. That's easy to do. Actually doing something about securing our borders as we fight a WOT might be an important step.
Thanks for that link.
Everyone should read that.
Orson Scott Card, by the way, is not a Republican. He just has a little sense, even if he inflicted Enders Game on us. (smile)
Awwwwwww...
I remember them paying the lion's share. It's the first time I saw what we paid. I never cared what it cost we taxpayers during war, it's a price worth paying to keep our country safe and our military supplied with what ever they needed.
LOL.
He has been exceptionally articulate on the WOT. No problem on the link and yes...everyone needs to read it.
Yes, and much better than spending money on useless and ultimately destructive social programs.
I don't think I quite made my point clear...but since this isn't an immigration thread, never mind.
Somehow that doesn't surprise me. I believe he gets a good hunk of his money from the Saudis now.
Agree 100%.
What insult?
There is no Iraqi nation. The boundaries of Iraq were carved out of the Ottoman Empire by the Sykes-Picot Trreaty of 1916 (without U.S. participation or knowledge) and assigned to the British. In turn, the British assigned Iraq to the Hussein clan (King Abdulla's ancestor, not Saddam's) when they were thrown out of the Arabia. The residents consider themselves first members of a clan, then a tribe, then Shiites, Kurds or Sunnis, then Muslims. No one wants any part of an Iraqi state except our Baathist enemies. Iraqi Kurdistan has been a democracy since 1991. Democracy is anathema to the Iraqi Shiites (because it is alien to their faith) and Sunnis (who are only 15% of the population).
It's about taking a man at his word.
Yeah, you may be right, and the U.S. was once occupied by peaceful native Americans (Indians to you).
Exactly my point. He has always said the same thing on the border. His word and actions have been consistent.
He said the border was important...but his SOLUTION is not the same as yours. Therefore, you take the "border is important" and say it is an example of him not being a man of his word...while ignoring the fact that the context would suggest otherwise.
That's all I'm saying.
I never said anything about an insult.
I just said you were mistaken about the fact that there were multiple sources for the idea that Sadam had WMD, and many believe still that he did and that they were moved or destroyed. Most people believe that this regime was dangerous to us.
Whether these various groups of religious nuts can be coalesced into something resembling a democracy, I do not know.
Neither do you.
As someone who takes a decent amount of incoming fire for disagreeing over the conduct of the war, I'll just adivse that candor should be tempered with tact if you want to be persuasive. Don't bemoan the lack of open mindedness. Don't be rude or beligerant. Just speak your mind like an adult, and be prepared to defend your position.
9 times out of 10, you aren't going to convince the person you're talking to, because they've already made up their mind one way or another. It's the lurkers, who vastly outnumber the posters, who will make their own decisions based on who makes a good case, and who doesn't sound like a jackass. I was a lurker for 3 years prior to creating this account, and I know that the shrill voices who think they're winning arguements by shouting down their opponents aren't winning over public opinion behind the scenes.
WEll, I've fought the good fight longer than I can usually stomach it, and I am leaving.
Stay strong.
Greetings! I am the FR Cookie Detective here to help you find your long lost favorite cookie, but I need more information.
Was the cookie dough itself chocolate or white?
Were the "dollops" you speak of big glops of chocolate on top or were they just big chunks of chocolate mixed throughout the dough?
Chopped nuts mixed in? Pecan half on top? Any nuts at all?
Yikes. I'm abandoning this for now as well. I am super busy and really haven't have time to freep the morning away. I just couldn't help myself. ;-)
I hope they all know, however...that I'll be back. Here's to "as long as it takes."
Bush didn't mislead us: He was mislead. But as a Yale and Harvard graduate, he should have known the CIA was unreliable. We'll never know if he could have gotten a declearation of war after 9-11 if he had tried. But he didn't try. He assumed personal responsibility first that Saddam was close to possessing nuclear weapons and then that the U.S. could pacify the country quickly and withdraw. He came a cropper on both scores. Four years later, more than half of all U.S. ground forces are tied down in Iraq (in country, refitting or preparing to deploy). The consequences are that our Army and Marines are unavailable for other contingencies and our service members are asked to return for a fourth and subsequent tours while the other 99% of the U.S. population is not asked to sacrifice. I'm not saying we shouldn't commit 150,000 troops to combat permanently there. If the President believes Iraq is critical to U.S. security, he should ask for a declaration of war and share the burden.
Where's the fence? Is the war in Iraq part of the WOT?
