I'm LOL with you......old timer!
Well, I sure as heck couldn't find any! I'll take your word for it though. Now I'm in NM, and the problem would be keeping the entire mountain from becoming a torch. ;)
Howlin, I can't help myself. Kati and the children will never know his final words. But, they know his final thoughts. The Lord has already blessed his soul. I pray He blesses the family.
Did he leave a message for them, like I read on one of these threads?
Then maybe you both misinterpreted the comment.
These are good things to know (especially for somebody like me. I'll be spending my first winter near the Rockies).
Well, isn't this rich - just last night, you arrogantly (an incorrectly) labeled a poster a bigot, multiple times, because he questioned a government decision to transplant an African tribe with some very bad values over here to the U.S.
I think you're projecting, Howlin.
Sir Gawain is anything except naive.
Some of you newer poster should learn a few things from some of us who have been here a long time.
Well, heck, Search & Rescue would find you that way. Fricasseed, yes...
I didn't say I wasn't posting. I said a lot of people weren't posting.
A lot of good people can't take the crap some of you hand out 24/7.
And I didn't see anything to make me change my mind about that poster. In case you're forgotten, I'm entitled to my opinion.
Don't like it? Take a damn number.
Appreciate your post showing that it isn't only newcomers who can be jerks. Some of the most extremely rude freepers have 1998 on their pages.....or 2006. Similarly, some of the kindest have 1998 on their pages.....or 2006 (and in between, too).
Let's keep in mind that these are people who got rubber to burn. I can only assume they did that with gasoline. Yes, once the fire was started, they should have kept it going no matter what. If the wood is wet, it makes more smoke (good thing), if your coals are good, wet wood will eventually dry out and burn just fine.
We may never know why they didn't keep a fire going. Yes, it would take time to gather it; hard to do with an infant. You would lose heat, burn lots of calories, etc. They did have extra clothes (if they were going to a resort) and I would imagine diapers as well. Someone mentioned ealier that Kati would be going crazy with no diapers. You can change them less frenquently if you have to, every mom has gone too long between diaper changes. In this case you would wait to minimize the number of times the baby is exposed to the cold and reduce the loss of body heat trapped in their clothes.
Much easier to fight diaper rash than hypothermia.
My heart and prayers go out to the family at this very sad news.
Regarding all those who are second-guessing Mr. Kim's decisions, I think it is an unfortunate characteristic of human nature to blame the victims in almost any situation. I think it must help us on a subconscious level to feel more secure as if that can't happen to us because we "know better."
In reality, most Californians don't realize how clueless we are about surviving harsh weather. Neither do city people realize how little they understand about surviving in the wilderness. In modern-day, connected America, I think we also assume that help will always be available quickly.
I read a book earlier this year about a man who hiked out of the Sierra Nevada from a plane crash. He had grown up hunting in the woods of New England, so he understood both winter weather and the wilderness. As a native Californian, I was very surprised by many of the things he did (taking his clothes off during the day to dry in the sun, for one). They seemed very counterintuitive to a California city person. I picture most of us who fit that description figuring it's better to conserve our heat by keeping all our clothes on, even if wet.
May God comfort the Kim family.
For a hint at an explanation: Miscellanea (bullet one).
Gawain's the paranoid one.
FR has become a bit of a freakshow.
A bunch of morons calling for the "extermination" of all Muslims in their taglines, suggesting that anyone who is concerned about the Iraq War a traitor, etc. etc. etc... It would be funny if it weren't so sad.
Is this really the state of our conservative movement today, or has this website just been inundated with bilious idiots? I wonder sometimes.
In any case, it's gotten to the point where the only posts I bother to read are from the very people I most strenuously avoided 4 or 5 years ago.
Go figure.
the you in the previous post is you.
Why are you doing that? He clearly said that people show up on these threads, ping their friends to "show up" like it wasn't planned.
It is you who is naive if you don't know about that.
I didn't misrepresent jack.
What?
