Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Wednesday the nation is being given a chance to make up for past racism by the way it handles the influx of Hispanics.
Huckabee, a Republican who is considering a run for president in 2008, said Arkansas has made progress on racial justice and has a fresh opportunity to do the right thing in the way it welcomes the growing Hispanic population

You are right in that one of the tactics used by the open borders lobby is to subtly accuse opponents of being racist/xenophobic/anti-immigrant/anti-Hispanic/anti-Mexican if they dare oppose the enormous increases in permanet legal immigration that they wish to deceptively unleash.
I also agree that if Huckabee and his pro-unending mass immigration allies think that one million legal immigrants per year is not enough, then they should go to the people and put forth the case for more, and more importantly, they should craft legislation that is honest, transparent, and upfront about the amount of legal immigration they wish to admit. As it is, they prefer to mislead and deceive the public, and get what they want under the guise of 'guest worker' programs.
I would go a bit further, though, and say that not only does opposing an increase in immigration not make one a racist, but neither does a desire to reduce the amount of immigration into the nation. It is a very mainstream view, usually held by a majority or plurality of Americans.
Considering that Huckabee is La Raza's Governor....Huckabee has gone on record supporting LULAC and LaRaza. Such has been duscussed on the Arkansas board here on FR many times over.
Huckabee is the one who stepped in the way of the State Police handling illegals in any way. According to his rules, they must turn the other way if they encounter illegals, and are not to co-operate with Federal authorities in such.
While your point about current immigration policy favoring Hispanics over others is a good one, you should be careful what you wish for. People like Huckabee who combine elitist attitudes about immigration with a severe case of White Guilt, would gladly accept mass immigration from anywhere.
So while I don't think he'd accept a trade whereby visas now given to Hispanics are given to others, I do think he would gladly and eagerly double or triple legal immigration so as to admit millions from all over the globe. Huckabee and his ilk would jump at the chance to admit the Sudanese (or any others) because it would reinforce their sense of moral superiority.
Yeah, you have to wonder about someone who makes such ridiculous historical comparisons. That's usually a job for liberals.
Huckabee needs to go back to being just..........fat! All of this weight loss has short circuited his brain!
As to special privileges; there is an insane collision in this nation between public policies of racial/ethnic preferences and the large-scale immigration of those eligible for them.
Do you think a white guilt-ridden person like Huckabee would support the attempts to end such preferences? I don't. Its much more likely that he'd be like the GOP establishment in Michigan, which was outright hostile to the anti-preferences ballot initiative that easily passed in November.
To have a chance of winning the nomination, Giuliani must convince the base that he would keep his far-left social views separate from his execution of the Presidency, and most importantly, would nominate Scalia-Thomas-Alito types to the Supreme Court.
The issue at hand in this article will be of no help to Giuliani, as he is mostly likely terrible on immigration just like the current President, and his likely primary rival in John McCain.
Sounds like a solid guy but when is the last time a House member won a nomination, much less the presidency?
I'm not sure it's white guilt as much as a first move in a bidding war for the hispanic vote. And you're right, all the Republican Presidential hopefuls so far except for Duncan Hunter seem willing to buy hispanic votes by pandering. Hispanics are the new hot group up for grabs, and everyone's placing their bids.
It's disgusting, and dismaying that it's Republicans stooping to group identity politics. I expect this kind of pandering from Democrats, not Republicans.
I want to vote for a candidate who's seeking American votes, not hispanic votes, black votes, women's votes, the youth vote, etc. American votes.
Apparently Mr Huckabee is an ardent racist and wants everyone to feel guilty for his shortcomings. Must suck to hate being white and American!
I don't think Mike could have lost the weight without the help of his personal Chef..Don Bingham..
How does "cooked goose" sound for a Christmas dinner, Mike? Feliz Navidad..

"Guiliani is our first and likely only chance at the presidency if conservatives will be pragmatic and forward-thinking enough to support him. Short of that, it's President Rodham."
pro abortion, gun grabber, never happen.
Nice knowing ya', Mikey. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out of presidential contention...
Huckabee's kissing of the ass must be the black hole suction NASA detected.
When was "hispanic" a race?
Last time wasn't it just three? black, asian, and caucasian.
Hispanic is not a race, its a cultural identity.

Driving down low skill wages with hordes of illegals, at least in my mind, is most harmful to African Americans. Latinos and black Americans, from what I've read and observed, don't much get along.
Dear Illegal Aliens,
Arkansas is your new home! Be sure to register for what ever free stuff you can get from Huckabee and company!
