Yes, this is why we are a republic and not a pure democracy or the European version. Democracy has no ability to prosecute a war without it becoming political, and the Dem's were quite successful in politicizing this one.

You will now see them try to gracefully reverse some of their political election positions on the war, and this report will help them do this.

It is unfortunate that just because a Democrat supports a particular position, that Republicans should distrust it. That is not the case here.

We have two or three more reports to come, and by the time they are all out, a new consensus view will form. Or at least that is what is supposed to happen.

If we find that the far left hates it, and the far right despises it, then I would say that we have it about right.

I think that this is the intent of all of this, and the end result will look pretty much exactly like the current Bush policy, but most people will not think about it this way. They will claim it as their own, and that it is a new policy and Bush will let them do it.

The Rats' treatment of Gates at yesterday's confirmation hearing leads me to suspicion that the Left senses that America, although not supporting aggressive tactics in the WOT, does not at present want a pullout from Iraq.

Yesterday on the live confirmation hearing thread, I posted that the Dims seemed to be positioning themselves for a takeover of the Iraq campaign. They would, as I stated in my post yesterday, dearly love to take credit for pulling our chestnuts out of the Iraqi fire; co-opting Bush's tactics while destroying him and the Pub's 2008 chances would certainly be a delight for them.
