The WWI Diary Of Stephen McBride: Presented by His Grandson Michael McBride.
Portland, Indiana native, military historian, and grandson of WWI soldier Stephen Curtis McBride, will present a program at the Jay County Library about his new book based on the diaries kept during WWI by Sgt McBride. The program will be held at 7:00 PM on Saturday evening December 9th in the meeting room of the Jay County Library, 315 North Ship Street in Portland, Indiana. During his service in 1917-1919, Sgt McBride kept detailed daily entries in his journal. He also took many pictures, which he noted picture by picture as well. Even his letters written and received were included in his meticulous notes. When the war was over he returned home, carefully packed everything away. 65 years later his grandson Michael McBride opened those footlockers for the first time and discovered an incredible time capsule of one soldiers window to the events of WWI. Uniforms, letters, pictures and the incredibly detailed journals of Sgt McBride combined to give current generations an outstanding look into the daily life of a soldier during the Great War. Relive that journey from enlistment to discharge during a presentation by his grandson, which will include many of the actual items found in those footlockers. Michael has also compiled the journals, letters, and pictures into a well prepared book titled My Diary of the Great War 1917-1919 Stephen Curtis McBride, 31st Dixie Division. Books will be available and an Authors signing will follow the program. There are many local connections in the book and provides the reader a time machine back to the war to end all wars from one mans perspective
The books about Stephen McBride are very good. I liked his "A Rifleman Went To War"
Definitive treatise on Sniping in WWI.
Very interesting book.
Would like to read his war diaries.
