The "Land for Peace" mantra is correct, but not in the way the people who use it think. The MORE land Israel has, the better the chance for peace. The less it has, the more its enemies will be able to harass it into even more idiotic consessions. Even a village idiot can see that, but not Olmert. Like many elite, he has had the common sense educated out of him. Or maybe he is looking to go the Gorbachov route: destroy your country, then start some BS Institute and spend the rest of your life going to banquets & giving speeches on your "historic" achievement.

The Rabbinical Congress for Peace sounds like they have a very good understanding of their situation and what is coming next. Olmert, on the other hand, is a delusional and therefore, dangerous, idiot. The "give peace a chance" idea sounds so beautiful, but it really means that "peace" gives the enemy a chance to re-arm and re-group.
The Israelis should just acknowledge that the threats against them are open declarations of war and then cut loose with everything they have on all those who have opined for Israel's destruction. No holding back for world opinion, just do whatever it takes. I am sick of this putrid religion, this cult of death, destruction and mayhem and it's killing of innocents and turning innocents into killers.

I doubt this is an accurate representation of Rabbis Eliyahu and Shapira's actual statements.
Twelve members of Israe's governing coalition belong to the 'Shas' religious party. The rabbis could use their influence to get Shas to withdraw from the government, bringing it down immediately.
Truth is, no 'democratic' uprising can change Israel's self-destructive political course. Elections have proven that.
