I think a lot of Americans have convinced themselves real life is a reality show and if we get tired of the world, we can just vote ourselves off the island. The problem is the real world isn't like that and the Other Tribe isn't a bunch of nice guys playing by the rules. No, the other side is THE ENEMY that is bent upon our complete destruction. You would think with 3,000 dead on 9/11 a lot of Americans would have learned that lesson. I'm afraid that for many, the lesson hasn't sunk in because Iraq looks like a video game in which other people are being killed instead of Americans. For now, we are safe. But that idyll will not last forever.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus
To many, this war is a daily 20 second soundbyte. They're growing tired and weary of hearing about it every day it's becoming a distraction to an otherwise idyllic lifestyle.
They're more interested in seeing Michael Richards' career come crashing down, instead of being reminded of why we're at war, and I will also add that the media isn't doing it's job in educating these tired and weary viewers about why we're at war.
