A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos): 12.5.06

President Bush met with Robert Gates, his nominee to replace Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld, before Gates headed to the Senate for his confirmation hearing. View brief webcast of Bush and Gates at WH today. The Senate Armed Services Committee voted unanimously (21-0) to send Gates's nomination to the full Senate; a vote is expected Wednesday.

Bush had lunch with James Baker. The much-leaked Iraqi study group report is scheduled for a full public release tomorrow.

The leader of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, met with VP Cheney. Tony Snow said today, "... as Mr. al Hakim noted, the sectarian violence has been going on [in Iraq] for 82 years [since 1924]."

Those who have followed this Bush family through trial and fatigue, through more than one attempt to steal an election, who have watched President George Herbert Walker Bush preside over an immensely successful family and know his deeply-held emotions and pride in his children, will understand why "Poppy" Bush broke up when speaking to Floridians in Tallahassee about the service of his son, outgoing governor Jeb Bush. Here's a link to the video. Pres. Bush 41 said, "The moral of this story is to serve with honor, and your governor has served with honor."

Click here to see Deck the Halls, and Welcome All, the WH web site with videos and information about decorating the White House for Christmas -- this year and back through 2001. Mrs. Bush said, "Roland, our former pastry chef, came back -- by popular demand -- to build a beautiful gingerbread house that all of you can see right here. If you look closely, you'll see that Barney and Miss Beazley are driving Santa's sleigh at the very top. Kitty is here, right underneath the birdhouse."

I don't think it's just Jeb, although he is rightly proud of him, I think it's ALL the crap thrown at both of his boys that have finally caught up with 41!

The White House has a total of 17 decorated Christmas trees. Two are placed next to the famous portraits of George and Martha Washington in the East Room. They are trimmed with silvered-glass ornaments painted in red and fuchsia. Between them, recessed in the wall is an elaborate nativity scene.

This year’s official White House Christmas Tree is a Douglas Fir donated by the Botek family, owners of The Crystal Spring Tree Farm in Lehighton, Pa. The 18-foot, 6-inch tree stretches from floor to ceiling in the Blue Room. The branches are topped with snow, accented with red ribbons and decorated with crystals and iridescent glass ornaments.

I can't watch it either, I'll start cryin'. I hate cryin'.

That photo of George Sr with Jeb's arms around him -- eyes flooded, instantly. There's a lot of love in that family. No lack of it.

On another note, I like the President's Hair Cut!!! He looks so at ease and refreshed. Laura looks dashing in red!

On another note, not part of the president's day, I found this very interesting.

Drudge titles it: "Senate Hearing To Investigate Media's 'Hyped' Global Warming Coverage."

Sen. James M. Inhofe, Oklahoma Republican and chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, will hold a full committee hearing tomorrow on "Climate Change and the Media" . "Senator Inhofe believes that poorly conceived policy decisions will result from the media's nonstop hyping of 'extreme scenarios' and dire climate predictions," said committee Communications Director Marc Morano. "This hearing will serve to advance the interests of sound science and encourage rational policy decisions."

He sure did! I still have the copy of The Paraglider from Ft. Bragg; he's front page news. And another issue where he flips his lapel to reveal his American Flag button. :)

He once said that he would rather the garbage was thrown at him than his sons.

It must be true. How painful to stand by and watch your honor be impugned by the likes of certain people

IMO we should be so lucky to have some global warming. It means more crops to feed a hungry world.

Alas, the climate will do what it does without any help or hindrance from us.

Hi there Alia -- free free to posts comments before the all clear. What makes things confusing to the person putting up photos is when someone else is putting up photos at the same time.

There weren't many presidential photos today so this was an excellent time to have the WH decoration photos up. They are gorgeous, aren't they? I enjoyed watching the video of Laura explaining the displays, as I usually miss that when it shows up on television.
