A coup-de-loaf! I can't remember which FReeper's home page I read this on but it really made me laugh. His bio info was brief but included something to the effect that he admits to liking olive loaf. Now THAT'S a confident man!

Fear not, my FRiend! You shall receive it. Thanks, G :)
And thanks for the "freezer burned" loaf, too. Even though it didn't survive, I appreciate that you bought it with me in mind ... originally ;)

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread, Gretchen. What a lovely place the White House is this time of year, and I just can't get enough of Barney and Miss Beazley.
Thanks for the ping, Dolly. Glad you were able to get a lot done today.

I have wondered if Olive Loaf was a development that came from food rationing in WW2. You know, a way to make bland meat have some appeal. I will poke around and see what I can find.
I ate it a few times and for an occasional sandwich, it's not too gagocious.

Some Olive Loaf Bologna Facts:
Not sure how factual this claim is: "use within fourteen months of opening, longer if kept refrigerated"
Wikipedia says: Olive loaf is bologna embedded with black or green olives that are stuffed with pimentos. It is sliced thin and used as a luncheon meat. It usually contains garlic, basil or sweet peppers for additional flavor.
Can't find a date of origin yet.

Like Spam? Talk about gagocious--LOL *barf* LOLExackery, but not as bad as SPAM. ewwww spam. The only way I could eat that stuff was on camping trips (Girl Scouts, didn't have a choice, eat that or nuthin') was when it was fried. That helped get rid of the squishy texture.

I just watched part of the hearing. First off, Hillary Clinton is a witch, qu4estioning the intelligence and patriotism of the President, VP, and Rummy....disgusting. I hope she gets slammed by at least FNC tomorrow. Gates came back after the break and offered clarification to his comment, stating that the military has not lost one battle they have been involved in Iraq, and they have done an outstanding job. Well....here he goes...he supports the troops but not the mission. I'm very disappointed, even more so after watching some of the replay. He does not seem to be very strong, he answered questions that indicated he is the decision maker, and he discussed events as if speaking from a CIA perspective instead of a DOD perspective. He needs a lot of work, he needs a lot of learning, he needs to think before he speaks. I'm certain that some of what and how he said things today was just to get through the confirmation process, but he wasn't kind to Rummy, and he didn't call the stupid senators on their partisan attacks. Many of the things they said we should be doing are already being done, and Gates should have said as much. I'm extremely disappointed overall in his performance today; and if I was President, I would be questioning my own pick for SECDEF. He did not acquit himself well today.

most of my time was spent in carpet removal. It is 40 year old & nasty. a very good grade of carpet ... very thick, which for me translates into "vacuum sweeper killer"
I have gone thru prolly 10 vacuums in past 4 years. When the one died today, I said, THAT IS IT.
no more vacuum, no more carpet. I have NOT moved any of the furniture ..most in heavy laden with stuff on/in it & will require more time.. but I did remove a LOT of the carpet in central area. My sinus are really torn up for now.
I made two trips to dump today w/van..after dinner I loaded my dates car/trunk with another "load" ...carpet, padding.
I will sleep on hardwood tonight. I have slept on floor on/off for about 30 years.. normally there is a carpet underneath. I find it is much better for my back, which is pretty problematic(understatement of day)
