While all is not well nor is the WAR going the way we would like it to go or the way it was intended, TO SAY, "WE ARE LOSING" is nothing more than pandering to the left, demoralizing to our troops and ignorant of the entire HISTORY of WARFARE!!

We have allowed the Liberals to turn this into another Vietnam, where we can't fight to win, and can't crush a meddling country (Iran/Cambodia).
FedGov could get along without the Cabinet. They serve as decoys for the Pres and most if not all are indeed the Pres in all but the brass sign on the door and would sit in the Oval Office themselves if everybody ahead of them were to treat the job with the respect it gets from everybody else and take the next train home.
One, Gates never said we were losing the war. Two, Rumsfeld told Bush we werent winning the war and staying the course wasnt going to do win it. That is why he was devising new strategies at the time Bush fired him. Seems the only one here delusional besides yourself is Bush. All is rosy with the world. Yeah right. Kill Sadr and mutilate his Mahdi militia and then maybe I will believe that Bush knows what he's doing.
Either somebody has gotten to President Bush with persuasion he can't turn down, or he's gone Liberal on us, or he always was a Liberal in disguise. I don't know which, but he's not the man I voted for because he isn't doing the things I voted for him to do.
I haven't seen his testimony, what he is actually saying.
But if he were to speak the truth - it would be that we won phase 1 of the war. But phase 2 has not achieved victory. It hasn't failed mind you, but it hasn't succeeded either. It has left us in this "limbo" state we are in now.
That's what he should have said. If he has described it as an outright defeat, then I agree with you, he should not be sec'y of defense.
Do you know of any person, nominated by Pres. Bush, who was able to be confirmed by giving direct answers?
I am sure that is what he is being hired for and why he will be confirmed.
