FROM THE SENATE Hearing on Robert Gates
The Senate Armed Services Cmte. holds an open hearing on the nom- ination of Robert Gates to replace Donald Rumsfeld as Sec. of De- fense. CIA director from 1991-93 under Presidents Bush & Clinton, Gates is currently President of Texas A&M University. Senators are expected to call for a new Iraq strategy during the hearing.
NOW ON C-SPAN2 & C-SPAN3
that could be because he hasn't seen all the sensitive intelligence .. which I don't think he'll see till he is confirmed ..
that would make sense
aw..c'mon....he has had the same access that WE have re: the pre-war intelligence.
My gosh..the 9/11 Commission and the Senate Intelligence Committee report BOTH said there was a link..
Oh..well...I guess we aren't to question him...just assume that someday he will learn what is going on from something other than a NEWSPAPER!!
That sounds incredibly like "I said it but I didn't really say it." I'm still not really sure what he meant.
I am glad the White House gave him the call and ask to correct his stupid and defeatist statement that he said earlier about we are not winning in Iraq.
It's basically a love fest. The Dims have determined that the US will not, at this point, condone a Vietnam style pullout. So, they are positioning themselves for their new majority in Congress. The strategy is to take over the war and subsequently take credit for pulling the nation's chestnuts out of the fire. Gates is certainly giving the impression that he will be pliable- who knows why? Perhaps he and Dubya have correctly determined that confirmation comes first and the next two years will be another matter.
it won't matter much - the MSM has their lead story for the news tonight, no sheeple will hear the correction.
See my post #282
I think I have decided that until proven otherwise, I don't like Gates...I will keep an open mind, but reserve the right to point my finger and say, Shame on You!
(that shame on you comment in the previous message was aimed at Gates and the administration if necessary, not at you, my FRiend...)
I will stand with you on that KAC...his actions are going to have be more decisive and more pro-winning the war, than his answers have been..
That question I'll give him a pass (for now) because I don't think he's seen all of what our intell has and knows about
We can give him a pass on that for now..
But, there are al-queda in Iraq now...so unless Gates is being hired to testify on pre-war intelligence...what he knows and doesn't know is moot.
He's worried about prisoner being released ad going back on the battlefield
I understand what you are saying .. which is why I'm not giving him a totally complete pass
Sessions is up: and he is, as usual, right on the money. This is the type of questioning that brings home the realities of what is involved in the real world. Gates doesn't seem to be confused about Russia's intentions.
I was distracted and did hear what he said about Russia
In fact I have even stronger feeling than yourself regarding Gates, I do not think I will like him.
Yes...he finally had an answer about something other than Iraq...and I hope he pays a lot of attention to Russia.
He said that he thinks Russia is still "hurting" from losing the cold war, and they are trying to get back to their "major power" status in the world.
I don't think I will either...
