FROM THE SENATE Hearing on Robert Gates
The Senate Armed Services Cmte. holds an open hearing on the nom- ination of Robert Gates to replace Donald Rumsfeld as Sec. of De- fense. CIA director from 1991-93 under Presidents Bush & Clinton, Gates is currently President of Texas A&M University. Senators are expected to call for a new Iraq strategy during the hearing.
NOW ON C-SPAN2 & C-SPAN3
LOL..I am darn sure he answered that way...just to drive me nuts..
It really doesn't make sense for me to get mad though..he will be confirmed.
I just hope he works with Pres. Bush...and doesn't just cater to the dem hacks in Congress.
My source was HIM...he said that during the hearing today, when asked questions.
At one point a Senator asked him a question and he said he wasn't smart enough to know...ugh.
And YES, as a matter of fact, if he had said that he learned about something on FR, I would have a lot better feelings than the fact that he gets his answers from the newspapers..
I haven't been able to watch the hearings for the last couple of hours. I really appreciate your analysis, and think you are probably correct in what you say.
At least he understands his role.
Gates back on .. mentions while eating lunch he was watching the news and he would like to clear up his comments of earlier about losing the war
He was to say that the military is doing an excellent job and have many successes in Iraq ..
What exactly did he say that was different after watching the News...(doncha love how his "teacher" is the MSM?)
Did anyone ask him this morning about how he feels about having direct talks with Syria and Iran re: Iraq?
grrr ... I can't type to save my life
He was = He wants to say
He couldn't have gotten the message about all of the troops' success in Iraq from the NEWS...
Someone had to have "talked" to him during lunch...
That answer, he said, pertains to Iraq as a whole, not to the performance of U.S. forces there. I didnt want my comments to be interpreted as suggesting that they werent being successful in their endeavors, he said.
I think he realized that he has to watch what he says and got a hard lesson learned on how the media will jump on what he says
He wanted to make it clear he thought the military was doing an excellent job and have had many successes there .. but that more needs to be done
How many times is Warner going to say 'BIPARTISAN' today??? grrrrrrrrrr
thank you
It's up there with how many times can Levin say the words "civil war" in one sentence
She thinks she is smarter than any person on earth. We are not 'worthy' to be in the same oxygen space as she is, she thinks. PUKE!
He doesn't know if al-queda had any link in Iraq..all he knows is from the NEWSPAPER.!!!!!!!!!!
Really? What did he say in the clarification? I hope he got a call form the White House pointing out his stupid comment.
He hasn't been briefed on the topic. What do you expect?
Levin keeps referring to a meeting the two of them had in his office...and then asking leading questions.
I sure sounds to me like Levin TOLD Gates what he wants to hear...and Gates is giving the answers...
Unless he doesn't know...then he says he reads a NEWSPAPER!!!
