FROM THE SENATE Hearing on Robert Gates
The Senate Armed Services Cmte. holds an open hearing on the nom- ination of Robert Gates to replace Donald Rumsfeld as Sec. of De- fense. CIA director from 1991-93 under Presidents Bush & Clinton, Gates is currently President of Texas A&M University. Senators are expected to call for a new Iraq strategy during the hearing.

gack....it's Levin. Iraq is a failure.....yada, yada, yada
Truth to Power .. gag me
I will repeat what I said on the Senate thread.
Warner's opening remarks made it sound like he has zero respect for Pres. Bush...but just thinks the DEMS on the panel are just peachy.
He also said that he "hopes" that Pres. Bush will NOT make a decision re: Iraq until after he has met with the NEXT Committee heads for the next Congress....and that he wants the decision to be a bi-partisan and WITH the Congress decision...
IOW, I my opinion, Warner pretty much has taken the title CIC away from Pres. Bush...and is trying to reenact the hearings before we pulled out of Vietnam...
FYI...if anyone has NPR, they are playing the hearing on the radio also.
Barf, Warner was not much better.
It sounds like he is glad to be in the minority, its easier.
Congress is not the military and they are not CIC
"How are you going to get us our of Iraq?"
"How long before we get out of Iraq?"
"Do you understand the recent elections are mandate for the U.S. to get out of Iraq?"
"Will you work to convince the president we need to get out of Iraq?"
"According to the media, all Americans want us to leave Iraq. Do you concur?"
He sure did sound like that.
Has anyone said "quagmire" yet?
Yes, Warner sounded as if he was upset that a war had interrupted his Senate career and made it icky and hard.
As I said before, WHERE are all our men?
Not yet .. it's still early
Patting themselves on the back now. Let's see what Dole has to say.
Bob Dole up now introducing Gates
That is one phrase that whenever it is uttered, the speaker should get a pie in the face. THERE'S some "truth to power."
Did you hear all of the things that Gates has supposedly promised them already???
Levin said he has already agreed to give the Senate ALL papers and stuff that they request.
And, he has agreed to ONLY put funding for the war in with the regular budget NOT any supplemental.
BTW...I heard right before this started that this room they are in today, will be used tomorrow for the ISG to "reveal" their report.
A dog and pony show tomorrow to be sure...but I thought that Pres. Bush was supposed to get the report first, in order to study it.....
I think they are trying to make Prs. Bush look bad, by putting their recommendations in public so any decision he does make, ALL of us and the MSM will be able to second guess him...
