TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Dec. 5) - Former President George H.W. Bush came here Monday to talk about leadership and opened his remarks with advice on working with rivals, being patient and building personal relationships.

He then broke down in tears mentioning his son, Gov. Jeb Bush, as an example of leadership and the way he handled losing the 1994 governor's race to popular incumbent Democrat Lawton Chiles. He vaguely referred to dirty tricks in the campaign.

"He didn't whine about it. He didn't complain," the former president said before choking up in front of lawmakers, Gov. Bush's top administrators and state workers gathered in the House chamber for the last of the governor's leadership forums.

As he tried to continue, he let out a sob and put a handkerchief to his face. When he spoke again, his words were broken up by pauses as he tried to regain composure.

They say when men get older the relative lack of testoterone gives way to more prevalent estrogen so they cry more often.

No matter what their age some men have a heart instead of a mechanical device and know the meaning of compassion, and are not afraid to show it.
Something a lot of Europeans know nothing about, they're too afraid it will ruin their false male image.

Something a lot of Europeans know nothing about, they're too afraid it will ruin their false male image. What an odd statement. Seems to completely clash with the American image of Europeans as pansies. Seems like you want to have it both ways.
I have never, ever seen the Ameircan conservative image portrayed as "sensitive men who can cry". Maybe you are focused on the wrong party.

They say when men get older the relative lack of testoterone gives way to more prevalent estrogen so they cry more often. It sure beats that grumpy old man look that gets frozen into so many older men's faces. Every day I sneer into the mirror to scare it away. :-)

My Dad is older now, but even when he was younger, if he talks about his family in a public forum (it could be any family member...kids, wife, siblings, but especially his parents)...he tears up and his voice cracks.

Me too. My family makes me teary-eyed. I was just stating a fact about testosterone levels in older men - which go down often causing greater emotional responses.

It sure beats that grumpy old man look that gets frozen into so many older men's faces. Every day I sneer into the mirror to scare it away. :-) Believe it or not grumpiness and frozen looks are what make some older guys happy, i.e. they just love a good moan and grunt.....just can't help it, this is what my father-in-law is like.
One day you'll wake and think!!........that guy in the mirror doesn't look so bad afterall...

I saw Pres. Bush 41 speak in 2000 at Cedar Crest College. What an impressive, decent guy and quite good looking. It's a shame that Clinton defeated him. Clinton wasn't fit to tie 41's shoes.

that walking lawton chiles was one of the sleaziest and nastiest piece of work ever to hold office in Fl.
he is the one responsible for that radical left wing Fl supreme court. and the toll road to no where in lakeland was a real estate scam which he had a cut in ! when he dropped dead on the exercise bike the devil brought one his messengers home.

I was never crazy about Bush 41, in fact he really scared me, but if you want an example of a great father figure, he wins hands down!!
