Bolton's Goodbye: Bowing to the Inevitable (CHAFEE SAYS "PICK GEORGE MITCHELL")

Some opponents were softening, but the controversial U.N. ambassador's resignation is yet another sign of the changed political landscape after Nov. 7

The resignation of John Bolton as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations marks another acknowledgement by the White House of the political consequences of the Nov. 7 Congressional elections.

....

Chafee, who was defeated for reelection, issued a statement reiterating his opposition. " Mr. Bolton did not demonstrate the kind of collaborative approach that I believe will be called for if we are to restore the United States ' position as the strongest country in a peaceful world," he said. "This would be an appropriate time to choose a nominee who has a proven ability to work with both sides of the political aisle, a history of building strong international relationships and a reputation of respect for the institution of the United Nations. The names Brent Scowcroft and George Mitchell come to mind immediately as outstanding candidates. " There's no word from White House yet on whom it might nominate as Bolton's replacement.

Chafee has as much credibility on this issue as John Kerry, and for the same reason. Bush should nominate somebody he likes...why? In return for Chafee's indispensible help in losing the last election?

Clearly we need somebody less combative than Bolton, someone with a reputation for compromise and good fellowship. Charlie Manson?

Somebody ought to tell Lincoln [probably named for his old man's town car] to pick his nose, instead of UN Ambassadors. It's more in line with his IQ. And to think the GOP [and "W"] pushed for this idiot's re-election. The clearest example of why we're getting ready for the Wicked Witch of the West as House Speaker, and Harry the Horse as Majority Leader.

Republicans have done a bad job, but they have to be PERFECT to overcome the media.

The Left controls the MSM and the MSM controls the Mindless Middle.

"You forgot the part about the economy being great now!"

_______

They've been rather neutral on the economy. If there's good news, they've been touting the publics' "happiness with the election."

They'll wait. If it goes bad, it's Bush's fault. If it's good, it because of the Democrats.

To them, nothing that keeps them in power is impossible.

They'll go for the Electoral College before spring.

What is with this love affair with George Mitchell? Is there anything he hasn't been appointed to? He's like a piece of t.p. stuck to the bottom of your shoe. Just can't shake him.

Any ambassador that Bush will pick or that congress will approve is irrelevant now. The direction will be negotiation and cơperation in UN antiAmericanism and UN thwarting anything sensible.

Santorum would be an excellent pick fo UN Amb. Why does the Rep. party keep being the sheep that they are. If they don't wake up soon, they can say good morning to a president Hitlery or Bill Richardson. Yes, Bill Richardson. I predict he gets the nomination. Who will get it for the Reublicans- I don't know- they've got no one worth voting for - so far.

Did you miss Ashcroft's AG confirmation hearings? The Dems were merciless and that's when they were in the minority. Even the b*tch Ashcroft so graciously deferred to, despite all kinds of questins about the legitimacy of her election, voted against him. John Ashcroft is a thoroughly decent and honorable man ... Dems in the Senate can't stand that.
.. not much honorable about the Senate at all.
