I just went to one of the links provided by a FReeper posting and read the background about the new ship.
The USS Makin Island will be a fine namesake for the Marines who fought and died in that WWII battle.
Hey dog, haven't seen you since the last PW counter against the Hezzies in Balboa Park.
I can't believe they considered the commissioning of the
Makin Island in Frisco since there is no military there.
Most are here in San Diego as this one will be as we are home to the largest Navy and Marine bases and the ship will be homeported here.
Next week Nasco ship yard here in San Diego will launch
the "Allen Shepherd" in a series of huge dry cargo-ammo ships for the Navy.
