"I am deeply disappointed that a handful of United States Senators prevented Ambassador Bolton from receiving the up or down vote he deserved in the Senate. They chose to obstruct his confirmation, even though he enjoys majority support in the Senate, and even though their tactics will disrupt our diplomatic work at a sensitive and important time. This stubborn obstructionism ill serves our country, and discourages men and women of talent from serving their Nation. "

Secondly, in other matters, as Cato says, mistakes can be corrected aftearwards; errors in war do not admit of amendment, because the penalty follows immediately upon the slip. ROI

Please omit this statement you highlighted from President Bush because it goes against some freepers who want to blame President Bush for everything under the sun and not blame it on our real problem, the democrats.

Great remarks. Bolton fully deserves our gratitude. Most FReepers know this anyway. I hope Bush chooses someone with similar stances like Bolton or leaves the post empty at all.
Anyway the best option would be to leave the UN. Dreaming...

"I am deeply disappointed that a handful "Isn't this just consistent with the new "American Way" in all things:
ACLU stops anything that they don't like by filing lawsuits on behalf of small, secular interests, and activist Liberal Judges re-interpret the Constitution to accommodate them?
Secular Minority interests and the PC-crowd force minorities to gain rights that are UNAVAILABLE to the majority, often just by claiming that it "offends" them.
There is no true Democracy left, so long as minor interests control the issues through the Activist Courts and through extortion via threats of Civil Suits.

The truth is the president lacks the political clout anymore to put up a fight.

Bush should not propose ANY replacement. Tell congress to propose a replacement they will vote for. Refuse each one after AN INDEPTH investigation. In the mean time NO FUNDING will be signed for the UN!

Now he says it, when it's too late. He should have gone to the wall for Bolton.

Well crafted argument. lol. John Kerry, is that you? Ha. The president's party lost the last election. The war is not going well. And plus he's a regular old lame duck on top of it. He's got no choice but to make a protest statement, like he just did, then fold. The facts are what they are.

But that's my point. There's no point in going to the wall. It's like saying he should have bet the pot when all he's holding is a pair of 3s. You got to know when to fold em.

He'd never let Bolton's nomination out of committee.

"I thank John Bolton for the dedication and skill with which he performed his duties..."I thank him, too. He was a wonderful breath of truthful air, and he will be deeply missed.
This is the saddest announcement since Rumsfeld. We're losing all our real men. I'm just damn depressed.
