I wonder when Evergreen Aviation will get their Boeing 747 Tanker into service. I've seen the DC-10 for the past few months operated by

Yo-Yo, those look like huge planes. I'm wondering if they would be too large to navigate in and around some of the mountain passes and valleys.

The Santa Ana winds have been ferocious for this fire, yet add on the winds commonly generated by such wild fires and it makes airborne water drops very hazardous.

IIRC Evergreen is still negotiating a USFS demonstration contract, which has stricter requirements and requires much more paperwork than the CDF contract the DC10 has. Evergreen needs more than a California contract to recoup some of their 40 million dollars in development costs.

Would be nice to have the 747 on line down here in SoCal. 24000 gals of water/retardant in 10 seconds puts alot of the good stuff on a fire real quick.
