At least all of us could have a "discussion" about what compelling reason if ANY could be given for the supposed need to grant 20+ million illegals American citizenship (or a pathway there to).

The fact that GWB has made that the ONE condition that he will not budge on makes his plan unpalatable to MOST logical thinking Americans.

Even if we were to grant them some "new" legal status like permanent resident or something (less voting rights) would be a hell of a lot smarter than absolutely destroying the Republican party we have now by granting them a speedy "pathway to citizenship".

GWB's position defies all logic and would be the destruction of the party.

Actually, I don't see any compelling reason to give them an earned path to citizenship at this time. President Bush should make it clear to Mexico we can't and won't absorb their people. There ARE ways he can deal with this..if he wanted to.

I'm for enforcing the EXISTING laws. The 14th Amendment should be revisited. Reduce the benefits and the incentives that draw them here. Not as easy as it sounds, but it can be done.
