Congress will approve an immigration bill that will grant citizenship rights to most of the 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens in the U.S. after Democrats take control next month, predict both sides on Capitol Hill. While Republicans have been largely splintered on the issue of immigration reform, Democrats have been fairly unified behind the principle that the illegals currently in the country should get citizenship rights without having to first leave the country.

The median household income in 1950 was $3,800/year.
That translates to $33,166 in 2004, a touch more in 2006.
A Philco television set cost $199, or roughly 5% of a year's income. I can get a 32" digital TV today for $299, or less than 1% of those $33,166.
With the possible exception of housing (and th average size of the homes in tyhe US has increased since the 1950's), our wages buy much more today than they did then.
As far as understanding how SS works, I quoted government sources.

Then move to where the better jobs are.
Or do you expect them to come to you?

BTW...California (the State with the highest number of illegal aliens) has seen a drop in real wages for high school dropouts (the segment of the native population competing for jobs with illegal aliens) of 17% from 1980 to 2004. Yet, the same class of workers in relatively illegal alien-free Ohio saw a 31% drop during the same period of time.
Then again, if you're a high school dropout in this economy, competition from illegal aliens is the least of your problems.

I've maintained pretty much the same values I had when I voted for the first time...and at that time, those values were in line with many in the GOP. Nowadays, I don't feel that way.
Same here. You're not alone.

Nope. Grant them legal status with no voting rights...since they cam in "illegally" The 'legal' status IS the pathway to citizenship at which time they can vote...not before.
All we need to do is grow some balls.
You might want to put a brain behind them before you use them again.

Well, if anyone can see what is happening in Europe with the immigrant Arab invasion I can't imagine how this will be good for us.
Also, this is a different generation of immigrants. Communism is much more prevalent and developing in the Latin countries below us. This is very different.
Just because Russia has been brought to her knees does not mean Communism is dead. People have attached communism to Russia and Russia only. Big mistake. I hear Medved saying communism is gone. He is certainly blind to the south American political climate that is brewing.
Paranoid? I don't think so. Even here, today's Democrats to not look like yesterday's Democrats. Leninist socialist attributes have shaped the Democrat landscape. Hell, even the conservatives of yesterday would be considered Nazi's today. As a whole, we are moving to the left. Bush is certainly left leaning these days.

I guess I should have had the Sarcasm sign turned on. You totally missed my point. I was only saying that the way Congress was headed you better learn Spanish. As to Mexico I haven't stepped foot in that sorry excuse for a country in over 20 years. I have picked up all of my Spanish on the streets here in Texas.

Yes. Precisely what we need. More nonenglish speakers from Central and South America who have not completed high school. That should bolster the work force nicely, just as they have in California, Arizona and Texas.

All well and good, but that doesn't change the fact that the median wage is declining while the mean wage is increasing. There is a growing wealth disparity, which can be partially explained by the impact of cheap labor [illegals], which depresses wages at the lower end of the economic ladder. Wages may buy more today, but you still have to have money to purchase them. Many Americans have saved little for their retirement and are in debt. Nearly 80% of Americans pay more in Social Security taxes than they do in federal income tax.

the number 20 mil is old. My guess, is 30 million, since several thousand a month come over. I saw an interview, where it was said that 60% of people living in mexico had at least one relative living in the U.S. sending money home...
To: taxed2death; Howlin
I was suggesting we have a new classification pinhead. So apparently your 'new' classification would allow the 'illegals' to stay but not vote with no other restrictions? Can they drive? Can they go to the hospital? Can they do everything that any released felon can do in the US except vote?
Do you happen to know what that 'new' classification is currently called?
If you continue to be rude and obnoxious I wish to assure you that I am quite capable of getting your goat with some measure of professional skill and anticipation. You'll wish your tag line rang true.
H0wlin? Just how do you attract all of the Babe Bucannan Bimbos anyway?
