I agree that Lott did nothing wrong. That was shameful on the part of the Republicans which BTW was spearheaded by Bush's self-serving comments the next morning so he could get his boy in that post. We see how that worked out.

Chastising Lott wasn't about garnering black votes, it was about damage control (and punishing the idiot before he said something even dumber).
