Where Have All the Conservatives Gone? Right Runs Out of Potential Presidents

Sunday , December 03, 2006

By Susan Estrich

Where have all the conservatives gone?

Are there going to be any running for President?

First it was Virginia’s George Allen, the great white hope, the George on a horse, the governor with a smile, on his way to a White House run, once he got past that frisky re-election campaign.

He was, less than a short year ago, the Hotline’s unknown front-runner, the insider’s best guess, the neocon’s next new best friend.

Now, thanks to a Macaca joke, a ham sandwich joke, a terrible campaign, and some smart moves by senator-elect Jim Webb, he’s toast.

Then there was Rick Santorum. Mr. Conservative. Surely he would at least make a run. Give the hard core a place to be. Just as soon as he got past his Senate re-election campaign in Pennsylvania. The number three Senate Republican and conservative stalwart is as good a friend as conservatives have in the Senate.

Correction: Had. History.

Hello Bob Casey. Goodbye Rick Santorum. Another one bites the dust.

Her whole article is bogus.

She says Mitt is a conservative Mormon. Mormon, yes, conservative, NO!

I agree. She writes as if it were an election year and all the candidacies have been declared, when in reality most potential candidates are are deciding whether or not to run or have not yet given thought to running for President. She really has not done her homework about conservative prospects. There are a few listed and covered at TheNextPrez (along with quite a few liberals). The conservatives are trying serve God and man in spite of the government continually picking our pockets.

Maybe GOP just doesn't have anyone of the same stature as Al Gore, John Kerry, and Hillary Rodham. Or of course, Barak Hussein Obama Jr....the democrats' "great white hope?"

What it shows is exactly how biased our media is...

Allen is doomed by a joke, while his opponent gets by with almost murder.

We deluded ourselves into thinking that "Alternative" media ruled the day, when in reality those that control the sheeple's daily news, control the message...

We expected that people programmed into the 4th generation of voting Dem because "Republicans hate us" would vote for a black Republican over a white Democrat, and forgot about the Race-hustling Industry...

We assumed that an electorate that swoons over Survivor and wanna-be rock stars would be able to see above the daily drip, drip, drip of leftist propoganda and hatred from the left...

Democrats won because they ran Conservative candidates in most races, and it's put extremist leftists in power...

I only hope we can survive the damage they will do..

LOL.

Because the establishment mainstream media anointed him as our moderate savior as early as 1998. We should have been paying attention.

"TheNextPrez"

We REALLY should be worried about Evan Bayh...

If he gains major support, he WILL carry the day...

Conservatives better wake up and start defending Conservatives. The enemy can do this job literally on ANYONE.

Just the VP? You have to hand it to the guy for ruining the Republican Party for the next say 20-30 years. If I was Newt I'd put on a full court press to sink anyone that the president anoints for 08 as Bush is responsible for squandering the conservative in conservative politics. Thanks to the 43 team for doing everything the could to raise taxes, promote warfare and allow the Dems to waltz into Congress.

Conservatiives are "outraged" about so many things they can do nothing.

They pretend to hate the media but then knee jerk at every Foley trick the media plays on them.

I agree with you that Bayh would be a formidable opponent. He would probably carry a lot of the same states that "conservative" Democrats picked up in 2006. Democrats are probably too stupid to nominate him though.

Thanks, but I'll support those politicians worth of support.

Politics is definitely not for the weak. If a politician can't play with the big boys, then he should just pack up and go home (before the voters send him there).

That's all I'm saying. Support people who deserve support. No one can do it on their own. And everyone who deserves support gets extra "special" treatment from big media.

I don't think it was Foley or the media that lost the election for the GOP. It was 6 years of compassionate conservatism that didn't stop south of the Rio Grande and left no child behind.

I think Wormwood is saying his criteria for a candidate is whether they are "electable" (meaning vetted by the msm) while yours is whether or not they adhere to conservative principles. Correct me if I'm wrong.
