Where Have All the Conservatives Gone? Right Runs Out of Potential Presidents
Sunday , December 03, 2006
By Susan Estrich
Where have all the conservatives gone?
Are there going to be any running for President?
First it was Virginias George Allen, the great white hope, the George on a horse, the governor with a smile, on his way to a White House run, once he got past that frisky re-election campaign.
He was, less than a short year ago, the Hotlines unknown front-runner, the insiders best guess, the neocons next new best friend.
Now, thanks to a Macaca joke, a ham sandwich joke, a terrible campaign, and some smart moves by senator-elect Jim Webb, hes toast.
Then there was Rick Santorum. Mr. Conservative. Surely he would at least make a run. Give the hard core a place to be. Just as soon as he got past his Senate re-election campaign in Pennsylvania. The number three Senate Republican and conservative stalwart is as good a friend as conservatives have in the Senate.
Correction: Had. History.
Hello Bob Casey. Goodbye Rick Santorum. Another one bites the dust.

I don't think Newt will run because of his personal life. You can bet as Speaker that he was prime target numero uno regarding those FBI files.
Speaking of which; Hey Susan, I think we can answer where all the conservatives have gone!

Her whole article is bogus.
She says Mitt is a conservative Mormon. Mormon, yes, conservative, NO!
McCain has a better conservative social record then Mitt.

Basically that joke got him bounced.Shows what little pin point minds many American voters have !!!Doesn't say much about Allen's ability to think on his feet or engage in competent spin-control.
A better communicator could have countered the media's obsession with the 'macaca' thing...but not Allen. He just dug a hole and kept digging.
I'm only glad that we found out what a political incompetent he was *now*, before he could cost us a presidency.

Gotta say that this really is Bush's fault. He chose a VP who is not going to run.

Allen is a marshmallow; always has been and always will be.
He was exposed as an intellectual and organizational lightweight.
Good riddance.

I don't judge a politician by how they counter a ridiculous issue like "macaca" but apparently a lot of people do,however your posting does bring up a question, how did George Bush ever get elected ???

Allen was pathetic, especially on Russert. I would have thrown it right back into that snake's face.
Allen 2008: He cost us the Senate, He'll do the same for President.
I still think Santorum would have a decent shot although I think Fred Barnes referred to him in glowing terms as a "big government conservative" which sends red flags up everywhere.
I think a new litmus test should be that if Fred Barnes supports your candidacy, then the faithful should vote for your opponent.

McCain is going to become more and more attractive in spite of the whining on FR.
Of course I'm sure 30 per cent of the Freeper faithful will sit home in 08 to send a message...lol.

The Leftists can hardly believe their good fortune and are overcome with glee. The Republican Congress and Administration dressed up like Santa Clause and delivered the 2006 election to the Democrats as an early Christmas present.
Meanwhile, sane Americans--the Republican base support--are looking at their empty stockings with bewilderment--and fury!
Thanks a lot, Republicans! Thanks to you, America heads toward a trainwreck with Democrats at the helm of the Ship of State.
