As to the idea that Litvinenko smuggled material for a dirty nuke, it is laughable. Nuke made of Polonium?! Return the journo who conceived this to secondary school... or may it be the first time he'd go to one?
Another funny question is why Russians decided to kill Litvinenko with all that publicity, leaving the traces that led back to them...
The answer is that
a) there is no bad publicity;
b) their goal was to intimidate and frighten other whistle blowers - quite death of Litvinenko wouldn't serve the purpose;
c) they denied even the fact that there was any offensive weaponry in Cuba when the ballistic missiles were unloaded from the Soviet ships 24/7...
