Officials hinted that the election results would not be secret; Chavez himself noted publicly that any government worker who voted for his opponent ("George Bush's devil puppet") would lose their job.
There was a poll in Venezuela (which had Chavez winning by a wide margin, so it wasn't exactly something that could be easily construed as an "anti-Chavez" poll) that had something like 70% of people assuming that there would be punishment for anyone who voted against Chavez...

That comes from a friend of mine from Venezuela. She says that most people hate Chavez, but are afraid to vote against him because they fear retaliation.

I have very good friends here in the US from Venezuela with family there. They said that there were lists of those who signed the petition against Chavez in the LAST election and those people were fired from or not given jobs, visas etc. There will be retribution against those who voted against him, count on it.
