I'll leave his salvation to God, but I don't see the fruit of the Holy Spirit in James Earl Carter at all.

He reminds me of the reason this Scripture became holy writ: 1 Timothy 5:13 Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to.

I was married to TV at the time and remember standing outside a truck while the Baptist minister, bill Moyers, did his first interview for PBS. He and Jimmy Carter talked about the old time religion and his teaching Sunday school. It was a good get, and a pivot point in his election. They laid it on thick to make him out to be the anti-Nixon. Now they both act like secular humanists grossed out by Bush's very restrained religiosity. How times change.
