Democratic leaders are poised to gut America’s missile defense - at the same time North Korea and Iran are testing long-range missiles that can strike the U.S. and its allies, including Israel, Japan and Britain.
Meanwhile, sources inside the missile-defense community tell Pajamas Media that the Bush administration is planning to ask Congress to begin funding development of an “orbital battle station.”
With these key developments, 2007 is set to be the biggest battle of space-based weapons since President Reagan proposed “Star Wars” in 1983.
The incoming chairman of the Senate’s Armed Services Committee is Carl Levin. Levin, a Michigan Democrat, has long been a foe of missile defense. In 1980s, he worried that President Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative — which aimed to develop technology to destroy Soviet missiles during all phases of flight — was “destabilizing.”
Today Sen. Levin sings the same tune in a different key. “They’ve not done the operational testing yet that is convincing,” said Senator Levin during a post-election press conference. He was referring to the Ground based Missile Defense [GMD] system being installed in Alaska and California, to defend against North Korean missiles. He added that he favors stalling purchases of interceptor missiles - vital for missile defense — until after testing is complete.
In short, Sen. Levin and other longtime opponents of missile defense plan to use “testing” - set to an unrealistically high level - to stop missile defense.

Why not just get rid of the entire military. The Dems will bribe our enemies into loving America. The Pentagon budget can instead pay for slavery reparations and governmet-provided sex change operations for homeless transexual minorities.

The voters of America have spoken and given control of the congress to the democrats. Therefore the democrats should pull out all the stops and gut this program. After all, it's what the people voted for.
Levin doesn't want to do that. He just wants to reduce the military to the levels he sees in Europe. At bottom, he thinks that the Cold War was our fault, that the military is an instrument of American capitalism.

I hope you're right. Almost anyone I talk to, left or right, does not really understand what it is, where it is in development, and why we need it. Many seem to believe that the U.S. has capabilities which we do not, as Reagan's plan was thwarted in so many ways until we finally got the Agency established only a few years ago.
It seems to me the public would be behind all Missile Defense goals IF THEY UNDERSTOOD what it was really about, instead of MSM reframing...?

How many DEAD people is it going to cost us this time. Hasen't the congress have enough BLOOD on it's hands now. The next attact should happen on congress with no one there to proect them, then let's see how fast missle defense, a decent military buildup would occur!

I beg to differ. It is not a "done Deal" while we have developed the tech and have tested the sea based systems the funding for those systems still needs to be allotted. If not do you really think the Contractors like Lockheed and Boeing are going to foot the bill? Guess again. No Money No Product. That however may not preclude sales of those systems to foreign Allies like Japan,SO Korea, Australia and others... all it will do is cripple the US for another 20 years.... so why should the politicians worry?

Exactly! I agree .. if you're just going to try to appease our enemies anyway .. then why bother having a military at all.
On FOX money shows this morning .. there is coming a complaint from Wall Street. They see the appeasement of Islam as the very same appeasement given to Hitler - and Wall Street is not happy about it.
