4 Nativity displays among city exhibits
Honolulu Star Bulletin ^ | 12/2/06

When the Honolulu City Lights show opens tonight on the City Hall lawn, there will be four displays celebrating the birth of Jesus.

Nonprofit organizations are permitted to present their holiday messages in a corner of the municipal holiday exhibition that features bigger-than-life displays of toys, elves, snow people and Santa.

In other cities the use of public property for religious displays has led to lawsuits, protests and bans. In Honolulu a complaint about a Christmas Nativity scene on the City Hall lawn was resolved in 1998 with a system in which five spaces are set aside for private displays. Nonprofit organizations apply and are chosen by lottery to fill the five small spaces.

Last weekend I was in southern MO. In the lovely town of Bolivar, I went to a light show put on by local folks in a city park. about 75% of the displays were religious in nature and even the local Chevy dealer put the inscription "Let Jesus Drive Your Life" up in lights. It was fantastic and so much like the real America. The multiculturalists have to erase America, first, before they can recreate it in the socialist mode.

BTW, the park was full of great playground equipment, too. No less than 3 merry-go-rounds, really tall slides (the metal kind with a bump midway down the slide), Jungle-gyms, teeter-totters, honest-to-goodness swings high enough to make you believe you could fly and all sorts of other D-A-N-G-E-R-O-U-S recreational equipment built to last 500 years. God bless the people of MO!

So nice of them to allow 5 small spaces for Jesus on His birthday celebration. If the Christian Church really cared about this shabby treatment of their Lord by the world, it would simply stop celebrating this phony "Christmas", with its materialism instead of meditation. Merchants would go broke and the Chinese wouldn't rake in billions of dollars in exports, but Christians would be keeping "all these things" in their hearts, as did Mary. But because "Christians" today are more worldly than Christian, it won't happen.

Just wait, the ACLU hasn't focused on this yet. Their goal is to drive Christianity to the margins of society. This will not be allowed without a court fight.

well, here's a thought. when the "nativity scene fought by the ACLU" threads show up, they fill up with posts about how everything is doomed and how pretty soon we'll all be forced to forswear Christmas and Jesus and Joy and Free Markets.

And yet, where is the equal and countervailing fervor when someone posts a reminder that, Yo, all is not lost, this is still America, and yes, God is still very much at work in our affairs -- perhaps in spite of us, but present all the same?

It is up in my town on the town city hall. I find it amazing that the place where Ingraham and all these conservative talk show hosts live they do not have one. Goes to show us the real conservatives are the fighters like us who donate to put one up. I don't care if Santa is there too although I know all about Clement Clark Moore and his poem. The original Santa was a Bishop in the far east anyway. The real conservatives are not on the radio , we are on the streets , if there were more of us can you imagine the Nativity displays they would have.

YOU just have to take the attitude , bring it on. Without Christmas spending the economy of these stores would fold. We were taught , the Christmas sales made 60% of the yearly gross of stores. If we cannot have a Nativity , the aclu will not get it sponsers. Corps who donate to the aclu , no businesss. The name of the game is money.

Yeah, even WalMart saw it this year. "Merry Christmas" has made at least a temporary comeback.

[...stop celebrating this phony "Christmas"...]

Christians should boycott XMas? Great idea.

You have nailed it.

Ther are enough of us around to beat the socialists. If we fight for it we win the battle. But you do not back down. We Christians have to be humble but proud enough to stand up for what we believe.

Xmas was used centuries ago as the term for "Christmas."

"X" is the Greek symbol for Christ. It has nothing to do with "taking Christ out of Christmas."

Xmas

Please refer to post #3, then you will understand my
meaning. Xmas represents the Christless celebration
it is today. I say... Jesus is the reason. Let all
men rejoice, Christ the Lord is born this day in the
City of David!

I agree that you do not back down. But the socialists have already taken over secondary education and the colleges. It is a tough battle. In the short term, I only see things betting worse. In the long term, victory, but that may be a long time away.
