US, India to be closest nations by 2020: Biden
The News (Pakistan) ^ | Dec 2006 | Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman

Posted on 12/01/2006 2:19:29 PM PST by Gengis Khan

WASHINGTON: A powerful US senator has a “dream” that could become a nightmare for peaceful countries like Pakistan, China and Iran with no history of aggression against their neighbours.

Joseph Biden (D-Delaware), the incoming chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told an Indian weekly: “My dream is that in 2020 the two closest nations in the world will be India and United States. If that occurs, the world will be safer.” Referring to the “decades of mistrust and suspicion” between India and United States, Biden said “This is the single most important relationship that we have to get right for our own safety’s sake.”

He assured India that as the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he would not bring up the issue of Kashmir without “consultations with India”. He said, “We should use whatever positive pressure we can to move in the direction (Indian Prime Minister Manmohan) Singh is moving.” It may be mentioned that Indian Congress President Sonia Gandhi stated on November 28 that negotiations with Pakistan would continue but India’s position on Kashmir would not change. India holds that Kashmir is an “integral part of India.”

Justifying India’s nuclear programme, Biden said, “India lives in a very rough neighbourhood.”

I probably should've said 'European Caucasians' rather than just 'Caucasians'. European Caucasians are the ones responsible for I.Q. tests in the first place.

Or simply Europeans.

It's just a little sore spot for me, as far as I know all of my ancestors came from Europe, and I wish to include the Dasee in my circle.

There is something in the mindsets of Pakistanis and Indians the resonates with me.

I understand your point and am happy to speak of 'Europeans', as you suggest.

Biden has a point here. The US could use some leverage on Pakistan by getting closer with India, and maybe they would get tougher with the AL Qaeda in their country.

Oh, I see that you were responding to my original comment (#28) on this thread.

I regret to say that Pakistan bears a much heavier burden of islam than does India, and, of course, Iraq is almost entirely islamic.

"powerful US senator has a “dream” that could become a nightmare for peaceful countries like Pakistan, China and Iran with no history of aggression against their neighbours"

If its a nightmare for Pakistan & China, it must be good by definition!

"The best thing that ever happened to India was being made a part of the British Empire."
Except India went from being a prosperous country to being one of the most impoverished under british rule. Its a fact. So no... the british didnt do much good there.

"There is a tendency in the anglophone world to depict the British colonial rule as somehow beneficial to the 'Brown' races of India. The color equation is alway just below the surface. The beneficial nature of british rule is a very incorrect assesment.."

I agree completely. The anglophone world including their supporters in India try to portray the british rule as "taming the barbaric & uneducated" Indians. Without the british rule, India would be an economy today rivalling he US.

I have nothing to add to this discussion beyond what I wrote in my posts #35 and #39.

-ensured free trade,
Free trade? really? India was trading with the europeans long before there was an east india company and India and china constituted a large part of world trade. The british rule ruined that.

>created a well developed system of railways and >telegraphs,
Are the countries where railways exist all british colonies? If not why wouldnt there be a railway in India without british rule?
And what about the absence of highways? What about lack of education and healthcare?

>>"a bureaucracy free from political interferences"
to serve its own purpose.

>>" and a modern legal system"
do only british colonies have that?

Its downright arrogant to assume that no progress could have happened there without british rule.

Digressing on one of your sub-topics, being an Indian, I dont think Indians as a race have a higher IQ than Whites or anyone else. Same goes for Oriental people (I dont mean to sound offensive but thats the only polite way to collective describe Far east Asians).

Its useless to collectively attribute some qualities to an entire race of people. Plenty of Indians are much dumber and more useless than their White, Black or Oriental counterparts. What else would you say about people who still vote even to the scummiest of politicians on the basis of Caste in every election ? That said, Indians are not the one to blame either.

Lower intelligence is typical of people who tend to group think and trivialize originality. In India, the group tends to be caste. And so, people who strongly associate themselves with their Caste tend to bring their MOB-like mentality to every aspect of their life.

One cannot ponder over the insightful saying of Heinlein "The IQ of any Mob is that of the man with the lowest IQ and the loudest mouth."

I also remember a novel by Solzenitsyn, cant remember the title, in which a German academician tries to talk some sense into a group of Russian soldiers when they are pillaging his town.. as soon as one man starts laughing in the middle of his speech, all the soldiers catch that infectious laughter and waste no time in dispensing a bullet through his ear.

One question: Were the British any worse than Mulayam Singh Yadav, Laloo Yadav and the countless other corrupt scoundrels who plundered millions in the name of "social justice" and other archaic slogans ?

Actually, some Indians are Caucasian, but there are some who look more mongoloid and some look very black African.

Most Indians are mixed though in the north, the indo-european features are more common. In Bombay, which has a huge population of south Indians, the differences between north and south Indians are quite striking.

Indians, Pakistanis and Persians are all Caucasian people, but all have mixed genes in them to varying degrees. Also all three are culturally different from one another, though Pakistanis share a lot more in common with north Indians (except religion, of course).

Well atleast the corrupt scoundrels you mention(ed) can be booted out like Laloo & others have learned over the years when they least expect it & also made to perform like Laloo seems to be doing with the railways. There was no such luxury with the Poms.

The reason why caste or community is bandied about in Northern India esp is not LOWER INTELLIGENCE.It is because of a chronic lack of education(less than 50%) & social reform as was seen in the Southern & Western states.UP has produced most of India's prime ministers(from different states),but the state is still akin to the wild wild west where everyone incl. the afore mentioned prime ministers lived for themselves. If you & I were living there,we would probably be voting on divisive lines. If anything the fact that these Social justice parties ar a sign that India's democratic polity is evolving but it will take a long time.
