The Nation's Pulse: Bad Girls Go Out
American Spectator Magazine ^ | Published 11/30/2006 12:07:10 AM | Carol Platt Liebau

Perhaps youthful celebrities like Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan are more to be pitied than blamed. Certainly, one branch of their education has been sadly neglected: No one has ever taught them how young ladies climb out of vehicles -- knees together, both legs lifted simultaneously, torso swiveled, feet placed firmly on the pavement.

In recent days, this oversight has evolved into something of a public spectacle. Websites devoted to celebrity gossip have featured plenty of pictures of Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan climbing out of cars.

The problem is this: Young women like Lohan and Spears are, in fact, serving as role models to girls all over the United States. A poll conducted last year by Teenage Research Unlimited found that Lindsay Lohan was the person most envied by teen girl respondents.

What's most remarkable is the deafening silence from the larger culture that has greeted the antics of the young starlets.

It's hardly admirable that adult males say nothing about the exhibitionism, but perhaps it's understandable; while they may not respect young women like Lohan and Spears, the visuals are doubtless intriguing. But older women who fail to speak out about why Spears' and Lohan's behavior is inappropriate and wrong become complicit in it on a much deeper level.

By their silence, they are allowing little girls (like they once were) to absorb the destructive message that vulgarity is the same as sexiness, that exhibiting oneself to be stared at or drooled over like a prime cut of meat constitutes "empowerment," and that it's "cool" to flaunt one's sexuality indiscriminately, rather than sharing it with a man who's shown he's interested in more than just another female body.

Tamar, I want to thank you for that post.

Back when I was a young girl, we were told (in my Catholic school) that the Tabernacle Veil and modest clothing on a woman serve the same purpose: to indicate something holy in the eyes of God, which ought not to be viewed or handled profanely or thoughlessly.

A lack of a sense of sacredness in the worship of God (Who is the Lord and Giver of Life) has accompanied the lack of a sense of the sacredness in our handling human life and sexuality, which is the bodily source of human life.

It's something I'm thinking about. Respect.

Britney's brother, sister, and mother Lynne who might want to intervene to raise the infants while Britney's getting her groove on.

I guess we needed a larger photo to see the little critters crawling around on her.

You can take the girl out of the trailer park but you can't take the trailer park out of the girl. To say nothing of the fact that partying with Paris Hilton etc. 24-7 is not the best behavior for someone locked in a child custody battle.

One of other aspect of this is that these girls are uneducated. Did any of them graduate from high school, let alone attend college? There is a hilarious Lindsay Lohan-penned tribute to director Robert Altman circulating on the net. It's as if a first grader wrote it.

Wardrobe malfunction

It's not a malfunction if you aren't wearing it in the first place. More like a "getting dressed" malfunction.

Humm
an elegant woman - from Hollywood. One has to go back a ways but some "real classic lookers" would be

Lauren Bacall (Betty Joan Perske)

Loretta Young (Gretchen Young)(and sisters Polly Ann & Elizabeth Jane were very easy on the eyes)

Betty Grable (her real name, heh)- very nice gams and a real patriot

Diana Rigg (her real name as well), and one that you find find a bit off Yvonne DeCarlo (Margaret Yvonne Middleton) good looking and quite the singer.

You could go on and on - but the current crop of sleazy and over hyped 'stars' (I use the term loosely) cannot hold a candle to classic actresses/entertainers who took the art and themselves seriously.

Britney - pppffttt - no thanks, I'd rather look at a woman.

Past your eyes, there is always hope. Give her some attention. Even if it is not immediate, she will remember it for the rest of her life!

I'm a girl, I know!

"I always opened the door to my XKE coupe for the lady."

Me too!

It served two purposes:
it gave me the best view,
and it blocked anyone else's!

I can sure understand why it is so easy for so many of the muslim useful idiots to hate the US

Right, thats mostly what they see of our culture, so one can understand thier disgust with the "west".

They may be right about a few things, however, and our decadence may be our undoing.

I wonder if Britney has a father

************

Good question. Her behaviour does seem to be reflective of the lack of an influence of a strong father, doesn't it?

Now the med types say it is an unnecesseary procedure for the delivery room but half the moms arrive that way anyway.

It's Bush's fault.

She could have been paid by Playboy for those shots.

Playboy doesn't even show that much. I must say, I was disappointed by Britney's less than cunning stunt.

For a woman who is involved in a potential messy divorce and custody battle, Britney certainly is proving she isn't motherly material.

Someone needs to do so and fast... the way she is acting, this partying all night, taking off her clothes and wrapping them around her neck to show off her naked crotch is a sign something is seriously wrong and she is in no shape to be raising a newborn infant and year old child (IMO).. I suspect drugs may be part of the problem.
