America is turning against a war it supported, for the essential reason that no one is able to promise a believable path to a successful outcome, and Americans are a practical people.

Americans are an ignorant, uncommitted, disengaged, poorly informed people. Sorry to say.

Among Peggy's customary warm syrup ..............

"Pat Buchanan's "A constitution doesn't make a country, a country makes a constitution." Iraq has a constitution but not a country."

The problem it that the lefties want to dominate America. It matter not to them if they destroy America in their quest for domination -- in fact for the ideological leaders in the left destruction of America is the penultimate goal.

"The last people (who may have) with grace in America are poor Christians and religiously educated people of the middle class. The rich gave it up as an affectation long ago." ---

Pretty nasty and wrong, Peggy. I know a great number of very wealthy people who have grace. You, Peggy, are talking about politicians.

"For this Mr. Webb has been roundly criticized. And on reading the exchange I thought it had the sound of the rattling little aggressions of our day, but not on Mr. Webb's side. Imagine Lincoln saying, in such circumstances, "That's not what I asked you." Or JFK. Or Gerald Ford!"

""That's not what I asked you" is a sentence straight from cable TV, from which many Americans are acquiring an attitude toward public and even private presentation." ---

Dear Peggy has a problem with the President saying to Webb, "That's not what I asked you." What do you think?

No Peggy, as Mark Steyn keeps telling us, we need a stronger will to win and succeed in Iraq. Your brand of hand-wringing, "let's all behave ourselves and be nice" treacle is part of the reason everything is so muddled right now.

Sometimes Ms. Noonan is just plain silly. This is one of those times.

We're going to need grace. We are going to need a great outbreak of grace to navigate the next difficult months.

The old theme song of Republicans in the minority. It seems 40 years of training springs back into place with very little prompting.

I don't know about y'all but this is one old boy who's had it with make-nice platitudes and big tents.

What Republican conservatives need to do is kick ass and take names. For those that don't like that policy, "tough titty".

Peggy Noonan - another Reagan-era "stalwart" whose brain has turned to mush.

Again, Peg-O'-My-Heart, we're all really sorry for you that Bush didn't hire you for the speechwriting gig.

But it's kind of counterintutive to start writing boring drivel as revenge. Doesn't help your case.
