Our troops are in a war zone being killed, and we know the neighboring hostile country is providing weapons to the killers. The only sensible course is to threaten Iran and prepare to follow through if they do not pull back.

If we don't do that, Iran will continue and increase it's activities and more of our troops (and civilians) will die. We should not stand for that.

You mean other than kowtow to the all-mighty Baker commission and ask Iran for "help" in Iraq?

Big answer: Nothing, nada, zip. We've known this was going on for 1-2 years now, and the Administration has done nothing about it. In that sense, Iraq is like Vietnam, and Iran and Syria are Cambodia and Laos - untouchable avenues for troops and materials being used to KILL American troops with impunity. Of the Bush failures in Iraq, this is the biggest in my book.

And now, with that incredible piece of crap commissin report set to come out, the President won't even have the political will to do something about it. His hands will be tied politically.

Nothing.

This is an act of war with Iran caught red handed in it.

President Bush is already workin' hard making the tough decisions to do the hard work of workin' hard.

Good question. Here's a thought.

Invite the leadership of the various Iranian dissident groups to Iraq, for weapons training on the newest and greatest US technology, then let them take it back home with them.

Iran would make a great testing ground for our new weapons systems, like that new assault rifle that lobs frag grenades so that they burst directly over the heads of bad guys hiding behind cover.

Especially if it doesn't risk US troops.

Nothing like a little home-grown insurgency to distract the Mullahs from international mischief...

Any full scale war with Iran would be foolhardly, and would undercut the sizable anti-Immamist elements in Iran, but I don't think the antigovernment protesters would have much problem with our taking out a few Revolutionary Guard bases near the border. As a warning we might take out just one base, but task a freakin' wing of B-2s and blanket the sucker with bombs so that not even a cockroach remains alive.

Just a thought.

This is peanuts compared to seizing our embassy and hostages, as blatant an act of war as can be had. We have established clear precedent that we will do not a thing when provoked by Persia. Sorry, those are the facts.
