Webb, Bush off to shaky beginning White House denies Sen.-elect's claim of leaks after icy greeting

WASHINGTON -- Sen.-elect Jim Webb contends the Bush administration wants to paint him as a "hothead."

The former Navy secretary, whose election in Virginia put Democrats over the top in capturing the U.S. Senate, voiced that view yesterday.

A White House spokeswoman flatly denied Webb's charge.

"That is not true. At all," said spokeswoman Dana Perino in an e-mail.

Webb confirmed published reports of an exchange at a private White House reception when he declined an invitation to be photographed with President Bush, and next declined to answer Bush's question about his son stationed in Iraq.

He was told, Webb volunteered in an interview, that someone at the White House leaked a report of the episode, although he didn't know if that was true.

"I think one of the strategies of the administration, it seems to be to try to say early on that I'm a hothead, you know, or that I can't work in the political process, or whatever."

When informed of Webb's remarks about a possible White House leak and a strategy to depict him negatively, White House spokeswoman Perino said, "None of it is true."

"I am very angry with all of the conservatives in the Old Dominion" ......
PLACE THE BLAME WHERE IT BELONGS. On Allen's beltway adviser hacks who led him away from his base and Allen for following them..and I voted for him in spite of all that.

None of these people are taking a grain of responsibility for our catastrophe as they look to the bench for Gilmore.
Shades of Coleman all over again. We have no depth.

Webb also bragged "it was all I could do to keep from slugging him (the President).

I would like to see COL North ask web about his son and see if he would take a swing at COL North. The last time he did that was at the Academy and webb got his A$$ whipped.

What a colossal a-hole.

Paul Wellstone tried to hand Quayle an audiotape of leftist bilge in a handshake-line just after Quayle had sworn in all the then-new Senators, including Wellfare.

Webb's conduct, at a press-attended event, in response to Bush's cordial question (particularly generous when you consider Webb made bashing Bush a centerpiece of his campaign, during which Webb often wore what he said were his Marine son's combat boots), is even more infantile and self-centered.

Webb is, IMHO, a pompous ass with a chip on his shoulder. To suggest that the President's question, "How is your son?" was over the line shows just how stupid Webb is, and how he expects people to believe any excuse he gives for his obnoxious and boorish behavior.

The Times Dispatch article had this paragraph, Webb showed his scrappy nature on the campaign trail, coming from behind by 16 points in statewide polls to oust Republican Sen. George Allen. It wasn't anything Webb did that won the Senate seat; it was the media going after Allen in an unprecedented way and Allen's response to their charges. Just last night while changing T.V. channels, there was some kooky female sitting in for Chris Matthews, and she referred to Sen. Allen as George "Macaca" Allen. It's time someone took the media on and gave them hell for the trouble they are causing the United States!

Wouldn't it be interesting to know what Webb's son thinks of his father? Webb claimed he didn't mention his son serving in Iraq during the campaign...well, I'd like to know why in the heck he was supposedly wearing his son's combat boots, and now appears carrying them? If he didn't tell the public whose boots they were, why wouldn't we think they were some of his old ones?

The White House didn't have to 'out' Webb as a "hothead"...his own actions and mouth takes care of that little detail about him!

While I'm certainly no fan of Webb's politics, I was willing to give him benefit of the doubt about being a gentleman. Many libs who I would never vote for appear to be decent people if rather reality-challenged. Both Dem senators in my state of Wisconsin, Feingold and Kohl, are people I would like to see out of office. Nevertheless they've always been perfect gentlemen while in office. Not so Webb. He appears to be a galaxy-sized jerk with an ego to match.

Well, you know, the number one way Republicans slander democrats is by actually quoting the democrats.

Why African Americans continue to vote for these frauds is something I'll never really understand.

My guess is it's along the same lines radical muslims strap bombs on themselves and gladly die for allah--conditioning from birth.

I went to a "Coffee With Jim Webb" in Powhatan. What a joke. 17 people showed including 2 Republicans. Jim Webb showed up via a static embellished cell phone call.

I went to check out a table display in the middle of the coffee shop that featured a pair of black combat boots. I was impressed, thinking that the Democrats were honoring our Troops and perhaps raising some funds for Wounded Warriors.

When I reached the table and read the sign my heart sank. They were asking us to drop campaign contributions into the boots.
BLECCH!

Wow, that's a pretty petty use of combat boots. The guy has no class whatsoever.

We all have to do whatever it takes to make him a one term wonder.
