WASHINGTON -- Sen.-elect Jim Webb contends the Bush administration wants to paint him as a "hothead."
The former Navy secretary, whose election in Virginia put Democrats over the top in capturing the U.S. Senate, voiced that view yesterday.
A White House spokeswoman flatly denied Webb's charge.
"That is not true. At all," said spokeswoman Dana Perino in an e-mail.
Webb confirmed published reports of an exchange at a private White House reception when he declined an invitation to be photographed with President Bush, and next declined to answer Bush's question about his son stationed in Iraq.
He was told, Webb volunteered in an interview, that someone at the White House leaked a report of the episode, although he didn't know if that was true.
"I think one of the strategies of the administration, it seems to be to try to say early on that I'm a hothead, you know, or that I can't work in the political process, or whatever."
When informed of Webb's remarks about a possible White House leak and a strategy to depict him negatively, White House spokeswoman Perino said, "None of it is true."

Right now I'm ashamed to be from Virginia.
Sen.-elect Jim Webb contends the Bush administration wants to paint him as a "hothead."
Seems like Webb's doing a pretty good job of that himself.
Webb's washer is stuck in spin cycle....
Ping for Jim I-am-not-a-hothead Webb's latest excuse for his bad behavior.
One thing is true about Webb, for sure: he is a graceless boor.
Bush has too much class. If it was up to me, I would openly state that I was doing everything I could to make a pervert like Jim Webb look bad.
Thanks for posting this. WMAL had a story on this, too, but pulled it.
You're welcome
I keep reminding people that the majority of people did not vote for this clown. He had less than 50% of the vote.
Please dear Lord, let him be a one-term wonder.
He doesn't seem to need much help in that department, does he?
Oh but didn't you know that Webb supposedly salutes the Confederate flag and the Scotch-Irish as he votes for harry reid's radical leftist agenda.
"Webb, who notes that he wouldn't talk during the campaign about his son stationed in Iraq, answered with a response something like, "I would like to see them come home."

Web made a point of waving his son's combat boots as a prop! Incredible! Oh, and by the way, has it ever occurred to him that might make his son a target over there?
I am very angry with all of the conservatives in the Old Dominion who voted for Mr. Webb to send "someone" a message. Well, those voters got their wish.
Can you possibly imagine George Allen being this rude to even Bill Clinton? Of course not.
"Webb confirmed published reports of an exchange at a private White House reception when he declined an invitation to be photographed with President Bush, and next declined to answer Bush's question about his son stationed in Iraq."
This guy his a head case.
Typical Democratic deflection by painting the WH as the bad guys with selective use of misuse of words. "Leak" and "report" both imply some type of top secret meeting was written up for internal distribution and that this report was then made available w/o proper authorization.
What BS. Any intelligent person can see through this. But that is not who the Democrats are trying to sway to their side, is it?
Whats next, FreeRepublic complaining that it is being called a Conservative website?
I meant:
"Webb confirmed published reports of an exchange at a private White House reception when he declined an invitation to be photographed with President Bush, and next declined to answer Bush's question about his son stationed in Iraq."
This guy is a head case.
"Webb confirmed published reports of an exchange at a private White House reception when he declined an invitation to be photographed with President Bush, and next declined to answer Bush's question about his son stationed in Iraq. "
Disgraceful American.
I doubt I could be that classless even the President was Clinton.
I'm not. I'm disappointed that there's over 1.1 million people in the Commonwealth that were stupid enough to vote for Born Idiot, but I'm still proud to be a Virginian.
Besides, most of us down here on this side of the Occoquan and Bull Run don't claim that part of "Virginia" as Virginia anyway. Arlington and Alexandria are like that crazy uncle that nobody really talks about except when he makes a scene at Thanksgiving dinner.
