In N.H., says Bush must admit that to regain trust
BEDFORD, N.H. -- Former House speaker Newt Gingrich told a New Hampshire audience yesterday that unless the Bush administration admits that the war in Iraq is a "failure," it will never develop a strategy to leave the country successfully.
Gingrich, who has been laying the groundwork for a presidential run, said the Bush administration needs to plan a "third stage" in Iraq, following the military takeover stage and the recent democracy-building stage. But he says a third stage can come about only if officials admit they must change course.
"If the military, White House, and State Department continue to avoid the word 'failure,' how can you bring about a third stage?" Gingrich said.
Gingrich was in New Hampshire for three campaign-style events Monday night and yesterday. While the former speaker has expressed interest in a presidential run, he said yesterday that he is more interested in injecting ideas in to the 2008 campaign than in putting his name on the ballot. He said he will not seriously entertain a presidential campaign until September.
Gingrich, who served on a key Pentagon board that advised Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld in the runup to the Iraq war, was eager to distance himself from the Bush administration's handling of the war.
He said a show of contrition by the White House would help the president regain the trust of the American people and avoid a quick pullout, which would be disastrous.

Our Troops stomp terrorist everytime they get the chance to fight,
I think the success's have to be ignored,
to come to think the efforts are failure.
Every terrorist that is incapacitated there,
doesn't get a visa to visit here.
Thank you American Military!!!!
Keep it up Newt,
with you meeting with Clinton2,
I'm supporting Bolten for President in 08.
Regardless of his past, I had actually thought that Gingrinch might have a shot at the presidency. Not any longer. In my eyes, he just took his last drink from the toilet bowl.
We have not lost the War and we have not lost the occupation in Iraq. If the battle in Iraq or the overall WoT does get lost, it will be at the hands of the American people....the cowards, the traitors, MSM (including FOX), the dims, those that put politics and personal gain above our own survival....each and every single one of them will have the destruction of this once great nation on their hands.
I will continue to ask God to bless our Troops and President Bush. I will no longer ask God to bless the USA. We have squandered his blessings, so I will simply ask him to forgive us.
"They decided in three different elections when up to 12 million Iraqis braved life and limb to vote."
Yep. And they vote how the Imams tell them to. The Imams select leaders by voter proxy in most countries dominated by Islam. What do we get from "democracy" and Islam? Hamas and Hezbollah. Our beilef in the people to elect moderate, peaceful leaders is our mistake. Jihad is to engrained in the society.
We would hopefully be using the 400 billion to protect our borders. I guess you could say that getting rid of Saddam was a wonderful thing so we won. But realistically the only way to truly win this war is to destroy the Muslim religion and how plausible is that. Do you just want to believe that there will be an American style democracy in Iraq ?
"The last time I checked, Saddam was out of power and getting ready for the gallows"
The last time I checked Pakistan was asking the US to think about allowing Taliban rule back in Afghanistan and the Sunni's and the Shite's were possibly heading to civil war. The leaders of Iran and Iraq were also having a meeting of the minds. We have our own problems to deal with at the moment like securing our borders

If you aren't bright enough to understand that people are trying to kill us and we need to fight them, you aren't worth the time it takes to type a response to you.
Now I wasn't on this thread, and I don't want to be on this thread, and I mean it when I tell you not to ping me to threads that I'm not participating in. If you do it again, I will consider alerting the mods because it is against FR policy to do what you are doing.
Don't do it again.
We have actually lost very few soldiers when considering a three+ year war. In fact, our losses have been remarkably low. So by that standard the war is going well in every phase. More US soldiers were killed in an hour at Shiloh, Chickamauga and Antietam that have been killed in Iraq.
We in no way "allowed" an insurgency to take hold. If we had an honest media the success of this operation would be widely touted in spite of some difficulties. Saddam's release of 50,000 violent criminals prior to the invasion did not help matters either. No mention of that in the Treason Media either.
If it were to stop suppressing such facts as Libya running a nuclear research program for Saddam, his removal of WMDs and the peaceful environment in most of Iraq there would be massive support for the war still.
There aren't that many "mindless savages" either thousands from millions is still a small percentage. A large percentage of the terrorists are not even Iraqi.
, "Do we have the national will to persevere and win?"
Yeah right. Once we declare a War on Islam which could lead to World War III alot of people would want to find another way. But what other choice do we have. To win means taking care of Pakistan, the Saudi's and the Persians. Remember these terrorist are not just in the Middle East. ALot of Europe will have to be cleaned out as well.
That doesn't make anything I said untrue.
IF that is what he said then he has become as naive as they come. Such a statement would be seized upon by the Treason Media and we would NEVER hear the end of it.
There would be NOTHING positive which would come from such a statement and LOTS of negatives.
He is a has-been and a never-will-be-again. Too bad since I kinda like the guy. His political potential is only slightly above that of John Kerry and is dropping fast.
Your post is not just BS but ignorance AND BS.
Newt Gingrich is a rockefeller Republican.
How tiresome it is when people adopt ignorance as their own. This is NOT "nation building" Iraq is already a nation. This is no more "nation building" than the reconstruction of Japan and Germany were "nation building" after WWII.
What glib nonsense will we hear next?
Damn..so that's how he got 'em back.
Yeah, but we need some sense here.
I just lost what respect I had left for Newt.
Amazing how quickly he stabbed Rummy in the back after he left the Pentagon. Sort of how they work in the Congress.
