Sources close to outgoing Maj. Leader Bill Frist tell the Hotline that Frist has decided not to run for President.

He will make a formal announcement this afternoon, the sources said.

Frist made the decision in recent days after consulting family, friends and advisers.

Breaking news? The reaction to this announcement is the same as that to any announcement that Frist would run for the presidency. Yawn. Already got enough democrats in the government.

I think the reason was all the skeletons in his closet...to name a few:

1. once watched a R-rated movie
2. once played Halo
3. didn't marry his first girlfriend

I guess he's decided to concentrate on his diagnosis-by-video work.

If you add Nixon to the list, there has been either a Nixon, Dole, or Bush on every GOP ticket since 1952, with the exception of 1964.

Frist is no leader. He's soft.
At least he has sense enough not to make a run for POTUS.

We should thank him for his service.

What the hell is the matter with you.

When bush 41 was running in 1988, all the talk was about how no sitting VP had been elected to pres since JQ adams.

Wrong. It was Martin van Buren, the election of 1836.

However, a number of VPs have gone on to become President and win when their boss died - Calvin Coolidge, Harry Truman, and Lyndon Johnson.

Oh also, add Theodore Roosevelt to that list - he was re-elected after succeeding William McKinley after he was killed.
