Report: Israel okays PLO troops in Gaza

Israel has agreed in principle to let Jordanian-based Palestine Liberation Organization forces loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas enter the Gaza Strip to help shore up a 2-day-old truce, military officials said Tuesday.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media, said Israel's decision is part of the truce deal that ended five months of fighting in Gaza.

The Jordanian-based Badr forces would be deployed along the Israel-Gaza border to beef up Palestinian troops trying to prevent terrorists from firing homemade rockets at Israeli border communities.

In the past, Israel has been reluctant to let armed PLO forces into the West Bank and Gaza Strip, but apparently hopes the Badr troops will strengthen Abbas and support the fledgling truce, possibly leading to a renewal of long-stalled peace talks.

Saeb Erekat, a senior Abbas aide, said the president requested Israeli permission to bring 1,200 Badr troops into Gaza several months ago, but "so far, it's not a done deal."

The presence of the Badr forces would be key to Abbas because they would be loyal to him rather than to the rival Hamas-led government. Security forces loyal to Abbas' Fatah Party have often clashed with a Hamas militia.

Olmert and Bush are also arming and fatah in the west bank and training them. Fatah admitted they used those new weapons to shoot up a bus of settlers in the west bank.

Olmert and Bush are also for giving weapons and training the lebanese army who are best buds with hezbollah.

Olmert still thinks it was a good idea to have left the philadelphia route. Before they left it was very hard to smuggle weapons in.

Now hamas and islamic jihad have 100 tons of explosives and thousands of anti tank rockets and several hundred grad rockets that can go 30 km.

Hamas is building underground communication centers like hezbollah for rocket cells, bunkers for weapons.

As long as Ehud Olmert is in charge israel's security will be eroded.

Olmert, peretz, livini want to box in the idf and restrict the idf.

Olmert has given gaza border over to egypt, rafah crossing to eu and plo, and lebanon border now has the french saying they will shoot down israeli jets.

Olmert ran on the legacy of sharon when in reality he is a far leftist.

Earth to earth: Palestine is not a country. It is a thieving band of criminals. Stop negotiating with them, much less making deals.

One would have thought that when Israel did the same thing under Klinton and Oslo and then had to fight the b*st*rds armed with the weapons they gave them that it was a bad idea.

You have to ask the question, "how many Israelis have to die for this policy to change?".

Un-freakin-believable. Olmerde is literally handing them the keys to the gates. I saw in the JPost yesterday that Olmerde is ranking pretty low according to about 2/3 of the population.

Olmerde makes Chamberlain and Daladier look like Dobermans with big brass ones! He seems to have a suicide wish and unfortunately wants to take the nation of Israel down with him!
