I'd like to know how many of the 7,000 al Qaeda were killed and how many were only captured. There is a huge difference, as the Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib fiascoes remind us. When we capture these people, we're temporarily taking them out of the action, but also creating a new victim group for the Rats and the ACLU to represent. Sooner or later, we'll be forced to release them, or they'll escape, or something.
