The National Abortion Rights Action League may brag that it helped to elect 18 new pro-abortion congressmen and a couple of new pro-abortion senators, but the shift in Congress is not as lopsided as it wants to pretend. A number of new pro-life congressmensome of them Democratshave been elected as well, so we will be reaching out to them.
One key issue for us is the confirmation of pro-life Supreme Court justices. There is little doubt that Democratic control of the Senate makes for tough sledding for President Bushs judicial picks. But all is not gloom and doom. If another vacancy occurs on the Supreme Court during Bushs last two years in office, the odds are good that another Roberts or Alito can be confirmed. The addition of another pro-life vote on the nations highest court may seal the fate of Roe v. Wade.
Why do I think so? Think back to the bitter confirmation battle over Clarence Thomas nomination in 1991. At the time, the Senate had 57 Democrats and only 43 Republicans. The high-tech lynching that greeted Thomas did not prevent 11 Democrats from voting for his confirmation. The final vote was 52-48.
The four Democrat senators who voted for Sam Alito last yearRobert Byrd (W.Va.), Kent Conrad (N.D.), Tim Johnson (S.D.), and Ben Nelson (Neb.)could easily vote for a strong pro-life nominee. Then there are the red state Democrats running for re-election in 2008. It seems to me that Montanas Baucus, Louisianas Mary Landrieu, and Arkansas Mark Pryor may hesitate to attack a strong, pro-life candidate. Then theres Sen.-elect Bob Casey Jr. of Pennsylvania who, unless he completely betrays his fathers pro-life legacy, should vote for confirmation.
Where the election does make a difference is in our battle to get the population controllers and pro-abortion advocates defunded. Now it looks like well be mostly playing defense, hoping to cut off a Planned Parenthood affiliate here or a questionable program there. There are still pro-life victories to be won. As we give thanks to God for the many blessings He has bestowed upon this land, we will be asking for guidance as to how to win them. Mr. Mosher is president of the Population Research Institute.

PLINOs?
you guys may think im crazy buy our best chance is to elect Rudy. (Use logic not your emotions)
Why is that?
Well, he supported Roberts and Alito and likes Scalia... so... given that and his law background it makes logical sense.
Harry Reid is also pro-life.
Can we start to call the Democrats Murderers Of Babies, or "MOB" for short?
6 years of GOP dominance in Washington showed us the limitations of legislative pro-life work. Glacial progress is possible. Watershed legislative change is not possible. The real progress is bottom up -- less abortions, less clinics -- not top-down.
I am certainly not advocating lessening of pressure on the politicians; however it is time to ask the question: are we doing the best we can, in GOP-dominated climate or in Democrat-dominated one? If we discover that the meaningful change occurs because of change of hearts of the mothers, then we have to conclude that we do not do enough. The emphasis has been on the political change and therefore on the arcane points of the existing man-made law. To the extent that the mothers were spoken to at all, they were given sidewalk and post-abortion counceling. This kind of emphasis has one flaw: it reinforces the notion that abortion is a matter of legislation and of choice. In other words, it reinforced the notion that the problem is with the law (Row v. Wade and various pro-life or pro-death statutes) and with the individual choice (counceling for life). In short, while we oppose the so-called pro-choicers, we adopt their fundamental principle, that abortion is a matter of either individual or democratic choice.
What is missing is several messages:
1. All choices, either legislative or individual are subject to universal moral law. A government that passes immoral laws does not make the immorality moral, it merely illegitimizes itself.
2. No matter what the man-made law has to say about it abortion is murder, always has been, always will be.
3. Forgiveness for abortions that have been committed is a matter of Christian mercy and judicial clemency. Notwithstanding that, one committing an abortion is guilty of murder, plain and simple, and should not be treated any differently than the rest of murderers.
4. Abortuaries are evil but they are not the primary evil, those who employ their services are.
Unless these four things are articulated, our progress will continue to be spotty, one step forward, two back, three sideways.

Thanks for sharing! It is good to see something on the "UP-side" of this. Since the election there has been alot of negative attitude and thought.
There actually was a lot of good that occurred, but it is over-looked. Thanks so much for this thread!!!
MOB? why not BM (baby murderers)? couldn't resist that one.
if you want the truth....it is a spiritual and moral decline that begins in the church and home and not in the legislative body.... but, as with the civil rights movement....it is such a parallel....it is going to take legislation to change things....
on the spiritual battlefront - -
the prayer power has been going on for the last 33 years, not just here but all over the world! June 29 there was legislation by the first nation to abolish abortion, declare it illegal!! God will honor it!!!
thanks for the ping!
